Lovely meal for my dad's birthday. Excellent food and mocktails. Service was a bit slow. Will be back. Comes with old safe from previous Bank of Scotland being there.

Very nice place to have breakfast. Very warm atmosphere like most British pubs (literally given the presence of a few tables with the possibility of lighting a gas fire in the middle!). The place is large which means you don't feel cramped and don't have too much noise. We had different breakfast dishes and everything was delicious for a fair price (excellent Scottish breakfast for me!). The staff is very pleasant and the service efficient.

As per the previous review, same experience. I understand difficulties, but some are perfectly manageable and avoidable. Also booked in advance through the open table app. Arrived about 5 mins late, and still had to wait over 10 mins to be seated, after having 3 different members of staff fumble around with the booking screen trying to find my name with me having confirmation on OpenTable. What's the point of booking a table? How difficult can it be to find a name in a calendar? Why does it take 3 people? Is this perfectly avoidable and manageable? It is.I have also asked for a quieter spot, as per the management's own guidance in the review replies - no success. I have tried doing so calling twice in advance - they did not pick up. The answering machine is full, so you can't leave a message. Is this perfectly avoidable and manageable? It is.Like the previous reviewer, the waiter saw us to our table and then disappeared - who needs menus, right? Is this perfectly avoidable and manageable? It is.When one of my party ordered a soup for a starter, apparently there was no more 'soup of the day' on the menu, and it was something else. Bringing utensils, did not bring a spoon. Is this perfectly avoidable and manageable? It is.Attempt to order another item on the menu failed. At this point, it's better for the staff to say what you do have instead of customers playing menu bingo. Is this perfectly avoidable and manageable? It is.Like the other review, took about an hour to get 3 starters - a soup and 2 pieces of bread with some mushrooms on them. I could have done this in a fraction of that time myself, with one hand.Took about another hour for the mains which, again, were not complicated. Shocking stuff.Like the other review, witnessed multiple people around us discontent, wanting to speak to the manager, or just leaving. Nice atmosphere, isn't it.Do not eat here until they issue a statement of what exactly went wrong and how they fixed (noticed past tense and implied completion) the problems for good. I felt sorry for the staff and this will be the first and only time I gave a pity tip - next time I'll just plan a backup place and leave. On that note, wasn't even sure who to tip, because been tended to by something like 4 different people (who, as nice and apologetic as they were, did not and could not materially help the situation).Looks this place belongs to some restaurant management group - take note, all these virtue-signalling replies in reviews mean nothing. One would think belonging to some group implies some level of process and standards. Nope - just means look them up and avoid all of the places under their management. Anyone in that organisation with 'management' in their job title should be allowed to go do something else, save the group some money, because they are doing the opposite of that.

My son booked a table for 6 adults and 2 kids for Mothers Day.The table was booked for 4.30pm on arrival they were taken to their seats. We arrived just after them. No menus were given and nobody came to attend to us.After 15/20 mins we had to ask for menus. After another 10/15 mins our order was taken.Drinks were brought over and the Mothers Day Prosecco was a nice touch. We asked for water but none was brought over.5.30 came and went with no sign of food. At this point I asked about our order only to be told they had just got very busy. At no point where we advised of any delays. Surely if this was the case then we should have been advised.5.43 a waitress came and told us our food would be exactly 4mins. 5.55pm and still no food. My son at this point went to speak to whoever was in charge and he complained at this point. He was told it was getting sorted and that they were on it!The food eventually arrived but it was apparent it had been sitting for a good while, it was cold and very uninviting.I complained at this point and explained how angry and disappointed we all were. We have three diabetics in our group and two kids who had to sit for an hour and a half for cold food. The food was rejected and we left the restaurant. A Mothers Day celebration very much spoilt. On reflection I didn’t think the food was worth the prices they were charging either. We won’t be going back and we won’t be making any recommendations

Fantastic service, great cold town beer (the NEIPA is our favorite) and food, the bar bites are gorgeous... A must place to be!

Had a lovely birthday breakfast. Great food, including vegan options with a super friendly service even though they were busy. Great place to hang out.

The staff were excellent. The food was lovely but it was too noisy and far too many children running up and down. Hopefully quieter midweekKid-friendliness: I don’t mean to be kid unfriendly but there were far too many for it to be an enjoyable experienceSo yes the place is kid friendly

Music was far too loud. I could not hear my wife talking and she was sitting next to me.i just don't understand why venues like this have the music so loud.if you are out for a meal you want to be able to talk with the family or friends you are with. If the music is loud the other people who are in the bar or restaurant have to start shouting at each other so it makes the noise level unbearable. Come on mclarens turn down the volume if not, I we won't be back.
