“What a great welcoming to Edinburgh! Everyone was super friendly and extremely attentive. I was by myself and they made sure that I had a table and was comfortable. The food was delicious, I had the fish and chips and the fish was very fresh, and seasoned to perfection! Overall, superb service and atmosphere! If the staff reads this…. “Amazing fish stew, fish cakes, mussels, and burgers. We went there 2 of the 3 nights in Edinburgh. Great staff and service. Wish we were in town longer.”

“Easy pub to miss, despite being on a main street. That would be a pity as the food and drinks are definitely a cut above most pub fare. Friendly service. As others have said, the range of whiskies is beyond impressive and their flytes are well curated.”

“The atmosphere is lovely and the servers are sweet! We tried the maple syrup crepes and Shakshouka. The crepes and cold coffee were delicious but I’ve had better Shakshouka at other places. Overall, a good place.”

“Received this pub as a recommendation from Secret Scotland tour guide. After a long 24 hours of travel and sightseeing it was exactly what we were looking for. Tucked back from the main roads, this is a really cool pub that seems more of a local hangout than a tourist destination. The pub was lively but you could still relax and enjoy a conversation. As seats became full a local couple shared our table with us and we enjoyed chatting with them for a bit while they waited for their bus. Would highly recommend for anyone looking for a cool pub with a local feel.”

“All staff were very attentive and friendly. The food was very good and reasonably priced. We didn't wait long for our food.We enjoyed gammon steaks, rump steak and fish and chips. Followed by sweets which were all enjoyable. A good experience all round.”

“Get lost in a dark corner or mingle with people at the bar. Excellent stop for a bite and a beer, or just a bite, or just a beer. It doesn't really matter, you will enjoy sitting in a creaky bar watching the world go round. Everyone working there was an absolute delight. They let you sit back and enjoy your time and always seemed to pop to the table at the right moments. Finding a spot to sit was difficult during the 4 pm on time. Thankfully I was a solo so I took a small table. If you are a larger group (3-4+), finding a spot may be more difficult. I saw people headed downstairs so I wonder if there is more sitting down there? Definitely call to check about that. No promises. Prices are decent and on par with most places in the area. I will return when I am back!”
