Rooms are vile, smell from Bathroom, walls covered in water marks, stains on carpets, how this hotel is rated 4* is beyond believe

Wedding couple and 12 guests stayed here 2 nights, was perfect in everyday apart from some other wedding guests who were disrespectful but that's not a fault of the venue

When stayed here last time for business the room was okay, but when asking to book for evening meal they said they couldn't fit me in so I had to find somewhere else to eat which there isn't many places, ended up in a pub which was horrid, weird they couldn't fit one person in I was happy to sit at the bar or sofas, usually don't have an issue here.

Went here for dinner many years ago after great reviews by food critics. Unfortunately things have changed. Stopped for dinner on way down M74, maybe different manager or chef etc, but dinner was poor and not inexpensive. Masive change from previous visit. Wouldn't return. Mainly a wedding venue i think.

Were booked in for two nights and decided to upgrade to the cottages. Everything about it was really good untill
today. We were out for the day and came back to find housekeeping had been in. They started to clear the bathroom of our stuff which was put in a plastic bag. My wife's stuff taken off it's hangers and packed into her bag. Bathroom was cleared of our stuff an put in a plastic bag. Fridge was cleared of things we had there and threw out. Seems before they went too far they were in the wrong room.
So they have managed to spoil what was up to now a good stay. Would have given this a better star rating if this hadn't happened.

Part of a large wedding party. Firstly, all food served was really good, breakfast nice and staff were friendly and helpful. Communal areas are okay, but very bizarre velour sofas (reminiscent of a DFS showroom 20 years ago). To note - drinks are incredibly expensive - £25 for 2 x pints & 1 x glass of Prosecco!

However, the hotel rooms are truly awful - stayed in room 24 & the lighting for makeup is appalling, the room was so dark & dingy, no decent lighting anywhere! There was used cosmetics left in the room, dirty coffee cups & stained carpet. The room had no plugs next to the bed so all devices have to be charged at the other end of the room. If someone is above you all you can hear is footsteps and banging.

The bathroom was disgusting - so much so that I had to use a soaking wet towel to clean the walls as they were covered in drip marks (looked as though a bottle of Coke had exploded over the room) and then buy dettol wipes to clean it all myself & the floor was sticky. I didn’t even want to put my bare feet down on the floor it felt that bad.

How on earth they can class themselves as a 4 star hotel is beyond me and £140 per night, is a total joke.

Money needs to be spent on renovating all of these rooms. Wouldn’t stay again and do not recommend.

Part of a larger wedding group, let me start by saying the food and staff were lovely!

Unfortunately as per all the other reviews the rooms were not great and the bathrooms were horrid, mouldy, pink/black mould in the grouting, spots of mould in the ceiling. We didn’t even both asking to change as all of the guests in our party had varying degrees of bad bathrooms. They need to be completely ripped out and redone….

We stayed at Smiths for our wedding (25.8.24). we had a private dining booth on our wedding night, and we were waited on hand & foot.. the food was 100% perfect ? (I'd say hire one well worth the experience.

Re: Rooms...
We only wish that there were more rooms made into bridal suits... so that every married couple got a more luxurious stay! Then just a standard room...

The stay was lovely, food was lovely! Staff friendly and helpful.

The only thing i would say is the rooms could do with a bit of a refurb as they are looking a bit tired now... just a bit of tarting up to make them a bit more luxurious.
