Have been here a few times in the last few weeks just on our own and also with friends. The food is great especially the black pudding fritters and have also tried different things. Staff are lovely and very helpful always a smile nothing is too much trouble. Our friends also loved the food and will definitely be back again.

This place is great! Especially the service from Eddy! She was fab! Would recommend great food and service! Karaoke was a hoot! Cheers Ed

We are local and the Black Bull is the only real pub in town. Been a few times and always get the feeling it could be so much better if they would just strip it out, lose the wires everywhere and sort out the terrible paint, wallpaper and dodgy artwork. Real potential if someone cared enough

Had a Christmas night out with friends here last night. Absolutely fantastic night, food outstanding, prices behind the bar spot on and the staff are an absolute credit to you. Had a good old singalong with the karaoke some brilliant Christmas songs. Brilliant atmosphere from start to finish.

Would recommend based on several vists. The food is standard Scottish pub fare with a few ingenious dishes and an often great specials board. Some dishes are a little unspectacular (especially kids menu) but all is good quality and reasonable price for solid portion sizes. The service is mostly good, sometimes superb and the pub usually has a friendly atmosphere with rock/pop tunes played at a volume to support the relaxed ambience. The outside of the pub looks great, the inside of the lounge is functional if a little tired. Beer garden is nice when the suns out. The weekend whisky/snug bar is basic but brilliant!

The pub was great. The Italian food was a little salty for my taste unfortunately. Calamari was not great.

Good point and reasonable price. That's about as much as I can remember.

I visited here for the first time for lunch with my parents. They'd been a few times before but I'd never been. The outside of the pub looks great however the inside of the pub is a bit of a contrast and is fairly basic. The food is fairly standard pub fare but nothing spectacular. The service is good and the pub has a friendly traditional pub vibe.

Having been recommended , myself and friends booked a table at the Black Bull for a meal and get together. What a fantastic Village Pub. Great staff, smashing food and locals are lovely and friendly. I can't honestly remember the last time I had such a great night out. Karaoke was a blast and banter at the bar was funny. The cocktails were great. The whole place had a great vibe and was absolutely buzzing....will definately be back.

Absolutely fabulous steak pie. Tender beef and a huge portion. Great value at £10.95. Great assortment of gins. Basic no frills pub decor but more than adequate for us. Highly recommend.

This review covers two separate visits to the Black Bull in recent months. The first was in September 2021 when I dined with my wife to celebrate her birthday, and the second more recent visit was towards the end of January 2022 when our younger daughter who lives in Midcalder joined us. On both occasions the food was good as was the service. For her birthday my wife had Garlic Chilli Prawns as a starter followed by Haddock and Chips while I had deep fried Garlic Mushrooms, salad and dip. I also had the Haddock and Chips. On our more recent visit my wife had French Onion Soup which was the 'Soup of the day' followed by Sweet Chilli Chicken, our daughter had Macaroni Cheese, while once again I had the Garlic Mushrooms, followed by a Pulled Pork burger, chips and salad which was a 'Daily Special'.

Had lunch here after a long walk. Extensive choice of food and drinks to suit both meat and non meat eaters. Really nice service.

Had lunch today. Made to feel welcome and all PPR precautions in place. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Portions size was more than satisfactory and the food was freshly cooked and piping hot. The steak pie ..... is a must have. Sadly the place was quiet due to current restrictions but please give the Black Bull a try - on our experience you won’t be disappointed.
