4 of us dropped in, found a table in the Poets Corner without a Reserved sign (quite a rarity here it seems even though this is just a pub) and we were enjoying our drinks in, to be fair, quite a lovely setting. Halfway through our drinks, however, we were approached by one of the bar staff to be told our table was, in fact, reserved! No Reserved sign was on the table. We wouldn’t have sat down if it was. And so, we were asked to leave! Thankfully WE found a table outside to finish our drinks … without any care from the establishment, they just got rid of us and carried on - terrible!

A very disappointing visit I order food from inside the beer garden it was a very rude red haired Irish lady who I ordered my food with. After about 45 minutes I still didn’t receive my food. Left shortly after without receiving food or a refund when I brought it up at the bar inside the establishment if you would even call it that. Again very disappointed and wouldn’t recommend.

A casual visit to the Black Bull Inn, Moffat during our first proper trip away with our Golden Retriever Dog. We called in for a quick bite to eat as we saw the advertisement board outside which said dogs are very welcome. What an absolutely amazing place packed full of olde worlde charm ! We were made very welcome in the main bar, as was our doggy, who was given treats and a bowl of water straight away. All the staff were superb, as was the meal. We would certainly go back and recommend this gem to anyone.

We stayed in a Junior Suite in the annexe and it was beautifully decorated with huge bed, good sized tv on an adjustable bracket, coffee machine, kettle with range of coffees and teas and a slipper bath. Only reason I scored this 4 out of 5 is due to the fact there was no way of getting any fresh air as the window was sealed closed. There was a humidifier but it made the room a bit uncomfortable to sleep in. Due to ongoing issues with chefs, no food was being served. We did use the bar on one occasion but the barman seemed very disinterested. Due to the bar closing early the night before the barmaid who was working was great and very accommodating.

Thank you for a lovely evening: your pub is cosy and welcoming, with warm, friendly staff, a great choice of beers on tap and fantastic food - we loved our Tam o Shanter burgers and Cullen Skink. Our dogs were welcomed with biscuits and we heard the great story of Rabbie Burns and Tsar Nicholas!

We always stay in Moffat to break the journey from Norfolk to the Highlands. This time we thought we would try the Black Bull as it sounded so dog friendly. Our room was lovely, big and well furnished and a very comfortable bed. We and our dog were made very welcome. However, it was expensive for what it is and £25 for the dog was higher than most places. Problem was our room was outside in a passageway with people walking past and people sitting outside and chatting until the early hours. This lead to our dog barking a lot as it is very quiet where we live and she is not used to noise outside. We were also disappointed not to get breakfast as they did not have a chef, and because of this, the evening meal was basic. Won't stay there again, back to the Annandale Arms.

The room was lovely, well appointed comfortable and clean, however unfortunately the previous occupants had put the heating on full and this had been left on meaning the room was unbearably hot. With no opening windows and our dog being with us the only option of leaving the door open was impractical plus we had no wish to sit in the room in full view of the outside bar area. The chef has also left and no food was available. So sadly we did not stay on this occasion

As 3 friends we stayed overnight to break our journey to the Highlands. Staff were very welcoming and friendly and Moffat is a beautiful little town with plenty of shops cafes and restaurants to explore. Parking was free on the Main Street. Our rooms were very comfy and well appointed. Bathrooms were compact but newly renovated and toiletries were very generous. We sat in the vibrant beer garden for drinks in the afternoon sunshine and dined in the restaurant. There were quite a few items in the menu no longer available but our waitress was great fun and helped us choose alternatives quickly. Meal was fine and breakfast was also okay. Good value and great location with lovely staff

We visited the Hotel to break our journey from the north west to Dundee. We were met with friendly staff and a very pleasant clean and well appointed accommodation. We also eat there and had an excellent meal. Would certainly visit again. Recommended

We stayed here overnight on the way up to Crianlarich. What a lovely old pub! Our room was beautifully decorated and cosy. Our room looked onto the main street but it was still quiet even with it being a Saturday night, and the pub closes at 10 anyway so no late-night noise leaving the pub. Even the church clock stopped ding-donging at 11 (it did start up again at 7 though which was a bit of a shock ?). We ate in the pub and had a very enjoyable evening meal. The haggis, neeps & tattie pie was delicious. One of the waitresses really knew about her local gins and beers which was great... and obviously it would have been rude not to sample both! Moffat itself is a really interesting place to stroll around. We wandered around the old graves & church ruin, the park and we even discovered, thanks to our geocaching app, that somebody has a Spitfire in their front garden! Overall a thoroughly enjoyable stay. 5 stars from us.

Had a wonderful haggis pie during my bus stop here in Moffat. Was served by a lovely girl called Katie who helped read the menu to me and made suggestions. She also let me try a few of the beers before committing which was a nice touch - I promised her I'd write a nice review when I was home. Good luck with your travels Katie and I'm glad you enjoyed living in London! x

Stayed at The Black Bull on an overnight stay travelling home to South Wales from a holiday in the Scottish Highlands. We can't say enough good things about this Inn. From the welcome, to the rooms and the food, everything was first class. Mum, who is disabled, had a fantastic accessible room (No 16), which was very spacious and had a large wet room. Our evening meal was absolutely scrummy. We had haggis bon bons, Aberdeen Angus Burger and for pudding something called we think, a Moffat Puddle, which was a yummy chocolate and ice-cream sundae. The breakfast the following morning again was excellent, we had a full Scottish breaky, which set us up for the long journey home. We can't recommend this Inn enough. Thank you to all the staff for making our last night on holiday so great. Helen & Shaun Ballett, Raglan, South Wales

Brilliant historical pub. Clean and welcoming and has won awards for being dog friendly.\\nThe good is good quality and freshly cooked. Decent sized portions and piping hot.\\nPrices are what you'd expect in a Town centre; however, the desserts are very pricey at £8.95. There is no parking facilities but the town centre itself has free parking and it's only a short walk to the pub.\\nOverall I would highly recommend

Came today (Sunday 23rd) after noticing how dog friendly they promote themselves to be. We were greeted by a man at the bar and young girl. We ordered a lamb roast and the Cullen soup. The lamb roast was awful. You could tell they were frozen peas, carrots and swede with a small aunt bessies Yorkshire pudding on the side. The lamb was that over cooked you couldn’t cut it. The Cullen soup looked as though it was split and big chunks of flour or something in it. No one came to check the food was ok as the three members of staff were just stood talking ignoring people. After our plates were took away I said the lamb was over cooked to not even a sorry or I’ll let the chef know. As we were sitting waiting for the dessert menu to be brought which may I add never even came there was several people who came into the restaurant and one couple in particular that asked if you were open lunch times to then be followed by the three members of staff having no clue, asking each other that it was maybe 5 o’clock to then the young girl said “I think” we might be closed on Tuesdays. Maybe it would of been a different experience if there was different staff on but these three were absolutely hopeless and in need of some serious customer service training! Also charging £19 something for a roast that was as over cooked as the one I had today is ridiculous.
