Good food with a stunning view - unfortunately let down by bad service. We had to wait over an hour between the starter and our main course and one member of our party was given the wrong main course. We didn’t end up staying for dessert. The staff explained that the kitchen is cooking for two restaurants, but if this is the case then they need to hire more chefs. Such a shame.

Absolutely delicious! Fresh local cuisine with fantastic service!

Whatever you order, don’t pick the pizza! It was awful and looked like something a child had made. Zero flavour. Cheese grated and dashed on in a basic way. Quite salty. No flavour or depth to the tomato sauce at all. A poor experience and probably the worst pizza I’ve ever ordered. The lunch was saved only by the view and the impeccable service of the lovely, friendly, welcoming staff throughout the resort. I would not have lunch there again, but I would return for drinks and cocktails with a nice view.

Best view from a restaurant in St Andrews, looking right over the Old Course. Food was exceptional and the service was very friendly. Would definitely recommend if visiting.

Food was average, service was ok, they took so long to get our drinks. The view is absolutely incredible but that’s about it. Extortionately expensive. Do not get the ricotta starter

Very nice restaurant with friendly staff! Since we had a diner, we couldn’t enjoy the view. This we went the next day in the bar for a coffee. We had the rib-eye which was cooked as ordered. We ordered 2 glass of wine, which was far too warm. So we ask for new ones. No complaint from the sommelier.

We visited the Restuarant for a Christmas treat. Food couldn’t be faulted. It was perfect. What let the experience down was lack of trained waiting staff. They were inattentive, inexperienced and this lack of attention to detail spoiled the dining experience. On arrival we were taken to our table and our coats were bunched over the back of the chair, the wine we had with our meal was poured and then placed on another table with us having to ask for refills. The cote de boeuf was served to us with no elegance, it was shoved on to our plate. When it came to liqueurs and coffee the waiter didn’t know what we were ordering, despite a familiar liqueur being on the menu. The waiter wasn’t sure if ‘they’could do an Irish coffee. The Restuarant music playing was dim Christmas songs and really lacked an atmosphere or genteel ambience. The hotel itself is in need of some tlc this Restuarant is tired and needs to be revitalised. Sadly this is now our last time here, with so many wonderful chefs and establishments in the vicinity, the Old Course must raise its game. The menu prices certainly don’t reflect that the experience would be quite as mediocre.

Mixed feelings about this place. There is certainly room for improvement considering the prices paid. The three course meal we had was superb and so was the service , other than one member of staff. One waitress stood out for all the wrong reasons. We arrived with our parents, who are in the mid eighties , to be greeted by this lady who could not find our reservation - these things happen - but she was unapologetic and could see my parents were concerned but did nothing to allay this - just looked annoyed and eventually barged off to find another staff member who found the reservation immediately and was lovely ; saying that he would have found us a table in any event. There was no apology from the female waitress and, instead, she marched us over to a table. On my side of the table my chair was up against a pillar which meant I was seated on the corner of the table rather than in the middle. When I asked if the table could be moved a little she said she would send some over and, again ,there was no apology. She didn’t send anyone over and eventually we had to move the table ourselves ! Not something one would expect to have to do ourselves in a restaurant of this calibre. The only other disappointment were the sides which we ordered after being encouraged to do so by the waiter. We opted for some vegetables and a tomato and basil salad. Well , please take a look at the £4.50 tomato and basil salad that I hope to upload here. Happy shopper budget tomatoes and no sign of any basil. We left the whole thing. I am surprised that a chef in this establishment would let this go out of their 5 star kitchen and I would certainly be embarrassed to do so. The vegetables were not much better . A luke warm soggy medley simply stuffed in a cup. Other than that it was a lovely meal with lovely staff and great views of the golf course. I sincerely hope these comments will be taken on board and look forward to returning to a more friendly greeting and ordering the sides to see if these have been improved upon. At present - order them at your peril !

The view overlooking the Old Course and the Road Hole is the lure. The atmosphere is great. The food was what you would expect at a decent table-service restaurant, but nothing to write home about. One of us had a steak, the other fish. Neither dish wowed us.

Awesome. Service was impeccable. Went for breakfast and dinner. Stayed at the hotel too. Breakfast buffet was superb. Quiet and very efficient service. Great selection of fruit and berries and fresh omelette. Dinner was awesome. Great Bordeaux and stemware. Wife had the Salmon and said it was some of the best she has had. I had the filet and it was like a good steakhouse in the US. Great servers , who were professional and very friendly. They appeared to really like their job and it showed. Loved it and it had a great view too.

This restaurant is massively overpriced for what you get and has a tendency to overlook the solo diner. Had to walk out after 20mins waiting to be served and saw the serving person take an order for a group who had come in much later. Maybe they thought the gratuity would be better. Not at all impressed and would not recommend.

Have been dining at the Road Hole for many years now, always at Christmas time, and it has always been a 5 star experience. This time was no different, every course cooked to perfection, plated perfectly and totally delicious. But from previous years it makes me a little sad to see the menu become somewhat downgraded and limited. It seems to be trending towards being just a grill restaurant - for main course, the options were steak, steak, steak, venison, cauliflower steak, or halibut. Not being a steak/red meat fan, that leaves just one choice for me. As luck would have it, a great choice that suits me well, but still. In my opinion, the chef and team there are so talented that they're wasted just turning out steaks. The scallops starter and apple millefuille dessert prove that. What's happened to the days of the 7 course taster menu? Hopefully this steak-focus is simply a Covid necessity and the menu will expand again soon. The price is certainly still at fine-dining levels. But with the Swilkin loft next door (where we haven't been) offering more variety I really hope the vision here isn't to lose fine dining and have the Road Hole become an expensive Sands grill in essence - as I said, it has been a masterclass in fine dining for so long that would be a real shame. One other slight wrong note - no dessert wine available on the day (from only one menu option by the glass) and the port ordered as a replacement had also ran out. Not a disaster but again, hoping that isn't indicative of a move away from a proper fine dining experience. However, to come back - the meal itself was truly superb, a great experience. Staff were excellent as always too.

Food okay and service is well meaning, view makes it worth it. Only point to caĺl out from most recent visit was the Lobster special - truly unique - the smallest lobster you will ever find in the East Neuk of Fife.
