Nice enough place, nice enough staff, but not as friendly as other cafes and all the things like jam, or sauces were in plastic sachets or pots, which was disappointing. Could be better, but that's just IMHO.

So much improved.

Popped in for the first time today, our usual haunt was closed and may well not be our first port of call any more. The staff were very friendly, food was great and the seating was comfortable and spacious. My wife had a cheese and onion sandwich and asked for the thinner sliced bread, an option not usually available but welcomed by my wife, I wasn't happy though, when she has to have thick bread I usually end up getting a quarter of the sandwich, didn't happen this time lol. I had the chilli and cheese jacket potato and the chilli was really good, the only thing I would like to see improved is a crispy skin on the potato, this wasn't enough to knock a star off though. See you soon.

On our first visit to this delightful traditional British cafe we were warmly welcomed by a member of staff as we entered and were given a menu. There was a wide selection of food and beverages available. We chose tea cakes and a pot of tea for two. Which was served promptly with ample quality of butter. We enjoyed two cups of tea each from the pot. The cafe is decorated simply and gives a feeling of yesteryear but in a warm and friendly way. It pleasantly reminded me of establishments in my childhood many decades previous. I asked the waiter if they had WiFi after being served and was politely told no. I looked around the cafe, which by now was almost full with people enjoying the atmosphere on a winter's day and realised no one was looking at their phones ! It's been many years since I've sat in a public place and not seen everyone glued to their phones. No one person in this busy establishment was using a cell phone ! We put our phones away and like everyone else started to talk to each other and enjoy the jovial warmth of this traditional community enjoying their snacks and drinks and the company of each other. I should say the food was excellent both in quality and quantity served on warm plates and with a smile. This was our first visit to the Castle Tea Rooms. But it won't be our last, but next time we'll leave our phones in our pockets lol.
There is a vast choice out there, where to eat, but we continue to go back to the Castle Tearoom. It just seems better each time. What can I say, we find the staff very helpful and courteous. The service is great and the food comes out exactly as you order and very quick. 5 stars and some from me and my wife.

Lovely ladies that run the place and very dog friendly, which is fabulous. Gorgeous French onion soup with a homemade cheese scone and a jacket potato with cheese and coleslaw, both very tasty. Bacon for our dogs was lovely too. Well worth a visit ???

We received a warm welcome and were quickly shown a menu. The staff were well presented, polite and professional. The sandwiches we ordered were good value and the portions generous. Nice range of snacks on the menu.
