We had a lovely afternoon tea, staff were friendly and happy to help. Really enjoyed it ?

We intended to have just a cuppa, but the millionaire cheesecake stood out on the counter. It was rather good. A coffee and tea were good, but a tea strainer would have been nice. We really appreciated, in a medieval building having proper British crockery. Royal Kent, made in Staffordshire, with Allen Nelson made in England. Also Paragon, and a Meakin jug. There was something of tradition about the place , which was appreciated.

This wonderful tea room is housed in one of the most iconic buildings in England, which is 400 years old this year. We had a real Devonshire tea, with real, yellow clotted cream on our scones with jam. It was a real experience to be here!

Food was pleasant enough...but several issues including... Although the eight of us were the only people in the tea rooms, it took an absolute age (about half an hour) to provide drinks (four of which were cold drinks), five sandwiches, two cakes, and a scone. Of those, the cheese and red onion marmalade sandwich came without red onion marmalade, which was then provided separately and I had to put into the sandwich myself...the last sandwich to arrive,a cheddar and brie sandwich, came as bacon and brie, which then had to be taken back and replaced with the correct one, meaning my partner was then eating her lunch after everyone else had finished. I dread to think what the service is like when it's busy!

We had booked for afternoon tea which the website led us to believe would be in The Feathers Tea Room. Having now read the reviews for the tea room I am very glad that on arrival we were re-directed next door to the actual hotel. We had a characterful small room to ourselves looking onto the street with mellow jazz in the background. The food was very good and I especially appreciated that 3 tiers of gluten-free sandwiches, scones & cakes was provided (with 24 hours notice) and it didn't feel like the lesser option at all. Open-ended refills of tea were provided. The food took a while to arrive but maybe this ensured it was freshly made. The service was courteous. It was an enjoyable experience and nice way to celebrate a birthday. If booking afternoon tea I would advise checking you will be in the main hotel not the tea rooms judging by previous comments.

Amazing old building looks awesome from the outside. It's not so good inside. There are original features, but it's completely lost what it should look like inside. It's been modernised far too much , new flat plaster painted and wall papered, etc. pretty Characterless now.

Unfortunately myself and my friend will not be returning to this cafe. Nothing to do with the coffee, but everything to do with the chap who served us. He explained that due to a law, passed before Covid, we have to pay the correct money in cash as he wasn't allowed to give change "because of a new law" which he repeated. I have never heard such rubbish and don't appreciate being knowingly lied too.

I have wrote a review on here more than once only to be advised it’s the wrong business. Why they keep getting my reviews removed displays once again another example of the shambles image you are led to believe. The food is a disgrace and I have no idea what’s happened everybody has said the same. The coffee i was served is beyond words when I use to love coming in. The staff have changed and are mainly children whom have been replaced and can barely speak up. Don’t order the soup I have never tasted anything so awful. It’s such a shame and no we won’t be back. This is the third time I’ve written a review no doubt it will be removed. The toilets had no toilet paper and were filthy.

Used a Travelzoo lunch voucher, what a terrible experience. Food very poor and service non existent. Toilets filthy. Never again. They do not serve there regular lunch menu for voucher users and every course had a supplement. Rip off,

Iconic hotel with lots of atmosphere. We called in for afternoon tea but just felt that it needed a good clean. Dust on ledges and the interior didn’t match the spectacular exterior. Could be so easily sorted with good housekeeping.

We had stayed at the Feathers many years ago. It always had a good reputation and having read that it had had an expensive makeover we decided to try it again. I doubt that we shall return. The hotel seems to be trading on past glories. The cramped car park with its tight entrance has always been a nightmare though I suppose not much can be done about the poor site at an ancient coaching inn. Our room, only on the first floor, involved either going up or down a couple of steps every so often along the corridors. After arriving at the first floor by lift there were 26 uneven steps to be negotiated with luggage. Whilst it was more inconvenient than a physical difficulty to us, both able bodied with good mobility (but not young), it is something that anyone who finds stairs difficult may wish to know. At no time during the booking or after arrival was this issue mentioned. The building is old and quirky hence the ups and downs but people should be aware of possible problems. Unlike other comments, our room and bathroom were clean and well equipped. The only difficulty was that the room remained unserviced on the second of three days until we mentioned it after arrival back at 4 pm. Even then, we had to wait a while. We paid extra for breakfasts. The food was OK but nothing out of the ordinary but again service was poor with long waits for orders to be taken. As other restaurants in Ludlow were closed early in the week we ate evening meals in the hotel although this would not have been our choice. Food OK but possibly expensive for what it was and service was iffy. With proper staffing and training this could be so much better.
