We had dinner here tonight. The food was lovely, really nice menu. The service was outstanding and the owner very interesting to talk to and couldn't of been more welcoming. Very impressed and would highly recommend. A lot of history around the pub and area and we loved the story behind the cast of Hot Fuzz. Lovely location opposite the Well.Thank you for a lovely evening.Nearby activities: Wells cathedralNoteworthy details: Opposite the Well . Central location. Picturesque

Lovely old pub/hotel with plenty of character right in the market square. Stunning views of the Cathedral. Parking available but awkward. Efficient welcome and friendly bar service. However, the room was a slight disappointment.Booked a double, ended up with a large room on the 2nd floor (14) overlooking the square but kingsize bedding over 2 singles pushed together, leaving a hard lump right down the middle of the join. This resulted in lacklustre sleep on both our parts and aches and pains the next day. The bed didn't have a headboard (see photo) just placed up against the wal. The matress of the single was infact comfortable (if we'd have slept alone), which goes against all reasons for requiring a double!Reception staff (late afternoon) couldn't do anything about it as 'fully booked' - not even offered an apology or any recompense and appeared quite non fussed.Perhaps a description should state the possibility of twin beds converted or even having a double mattress available when required. On checkout the next morning, the staff were a lot more apologetic. As for the parking, the spaces are narrow or at awkward angles. We ended up against a wall and had to carry out a 20 point manoeuvre to enter it and even worse to leave. May have been better if earlier guests had parked sensibly. Not the hotels fault however maybe better for the future to reduce the number of marked parking bays available.Rooms: Quirky & full of character - shame about bedFood & drinks: Breakfast - Help yourself continental in an awkward corner so crammed in and hard to get things. Cooked was nice but tomato was still hard, not fried, just shown a little heat. Looked sparse on the plate when it arrived.Drinks in bar - quite expensive up to other establishments.

I've given The Crown a low rating because of the bed and how it ruined our stay last night, the staff were good and the hotel is in a great setting. When we booked some weeks ago we booked a double room but when we got to The Crown yesterday we found that it was a twin room and The Crown had pushed the two single beds together and thrown a sheet over the two matresses so that it looked like a double bed. Upon discovering this we spoke to the manager but there were no free rooms so we had could not be moved. In the middle of the bed where the edges of the two single mattresses met was ridiculously hard and uncomfortable and we both had a terrible sleep. It really spoiled the experience and impacted the rest of our mini break because this morning we were so tired we decided just to go home instead of following through with our original plans. I would suggest to The Crown that they keep a spare double mattress in storage and when they need to push the single beds together they swap the two single matresses for a double allowing their guests to experience a comfortable bed and a good nights sleep

Had a wonderful meal and a couple of beers. There is lots of atmosphere here and the staff were friendly and efficient.

Disappointing, but friendly and welcoming staff.Great location but our room was very small and hot with no way of adjusting the temp. We did not have a wardrobe and hot-water supply temperamental.Evening meal was poor with the fish from the fish and chips clearly having been fried many times over.At breakfast, there were the same chips on the floor from two nights previously. We cleared them up ourselves in the end.We would have pointed these issues out if we had been asked how our stay was when we checked out.

Can't speak to the accommodation, But the pub serves a great pint of Butcombe.Nearby activities: Wells Cathedral, Wookey Hole, Cheddar Gorge all within easy reach either on foot or by car.
