Had breakfast here, a good portion of food very tasty. The restaurant is clean and tidy, the servers are pleasant too.

We had our Christmas Day dinner here. Never been to the place before. A relative booked it. Was really impressed. The staff were very attentive, table nicely laid out, and we couldn’t fault the food. They catered for our 2 disabled relatives in wheelchairs. Would go again anytime. Thank you for making Christmas Day special.

Garlic bread wasn’t cooked properly, they didn’t bring out one of the drinks and took us 15 minutes to get someone’s attention, when I went up to the bar couldn’t even get a word in was told to go to the back of the queue which was far too long to get a drink that I had already paid for, the staff were just rude, the girl who brought the cutlery to the table pretty much slammed it on the table and walked off

After making a booking online for 6 people at 13:00hrs on the 29/12/2023 to get confirmation via email. To arrive at The Merchant to see no available tables and not one reserved. To then be told by a member of staff " oh we check the bookings at 08:30 and we don't check them after that " . When asking us what time we booked this , of which we informed her it was at 10:00 for the reply to be that's why we don't check bookings after 08:30. Then to be told if we can find a table we are welcome to sit there. What is the point of using the booking app and having confirmation if the venue is not going to check . Will be very reluctant to book here again ....not a very good experience.

The staff are wonderful, helpful. We’d actually gone to another pub to watch sport and the manager sent us to The Merchant. The ladies behind the bar were absolutely wonderful. Thank you ladies ?

Been to this pub now a few time and normally have a good experience. Went for lunch today as always the staff were really friendly even though they were mad busy but unfortunately the food was not up to the usual standards. Had to wait over 40 minutes which even though I was on my lunch break, I wouldn’t have minded had the food turned up and was editable. Ordered 3 items from small plates, chicken goujons and hunters BBQ chips. The goujons were overcooked and the other was soggy chips due to the change from grated cheese to cheesy sauce. Not liking the new menu and hope it’s just here for Christmas. Had it not been for the friendly service by the staff who were so busy and the fact we’ve had nice food from here in the past, if it had been my first time to this pub it would put me off going again.
