Whilst there was a communication issue where I didn't get my chips, but the fish was very good. Tasted fresh, plus nice crunchy batter.Next time, I'll write my order down as I think the lady that served me couldn't hear what I said, hence ending up with just fish and no chips. This place is a real gem! The food is excellent and good value. Keith and his staff are so friendly and we love coming here. Keep up the good work!Parking: We never struggle to find a space, but bear in mind that it is also used as a street market, so check the days. There are other car parks nearby.

We ate in, the surroundings were fine, it was clean and the service was good. We both had Fish, Chips and peas which we found to be very good. Cooked fresh, fair portion and no issues there. Unfortunately (and this may seem a bit petty) the drinks, one tea and one coffee were dreadful. Obviously made with the cheapest tea bag and coffee that they could source. It sort of spoiled an otherwise fair meal. The drinks cost about £4, how much is a decent tea bag? On leaving I mentioned this to the member of staff who was serving and she said Oh, and sort of shrugged. Come on, buy a decent jar of coffee. It's not hard. ( Or expensive) It left a bit of a bitter taste in our mouths. (Literally)

Staff are lovely! The establishment is clean and tidy. Disappointed by some of the food itself, battered sausage was was bitty, the milkshake was nesquick and the gravy wasn’t great. The chips are lovely though, crispy.

I popped in today for a quick bite to eat on my way home.It was quite busy but the service was very acceptable.The staff were friendly and where I day was very clean.The fish and chips were lovely and filling.Will definitely pop in again.

Horrible experience. Staff have terrible attitudes got asked “is that it” repeatedly when I only ordered the pie and chips. Got given a nasty look as I walked out. Food is also horrible, meat inside the pie like gristle and the chips were dry yet somehow a huge pile of grease. Urgh just avoid this place altogether. I see how rude the owner can be on here so it doesn’t surprise me his staff show similar attitudes.

Over the last few years I have used montys plenty of times as the food is always very tasty. However I have been extremely frustrated for a long time with the portion sizes. I can't believe the size of the large portion of chips. It isn't even the size of a regular portion from other chip shops like the haregate fryer. The photo below is of a large portion that i havent had anything out. Prices have gone up everywhere and I accept it is for good reason, but when I am paying 3pounds for a large portion of chips I expect a large portion. Last week I had large fish and chips and the fish was not even the size of a regular fish else where.While waiting in the shop last week i also noticed that the portions are very different depending on who serves or who is the customer. I watched them portion two portions of chips up and I was preparing myself to ask for my money back but they were for another man, who also asked for large. I couldn't believe it. Then when I got my food home they looked no better other than I had a tiny fish on top.The chips and the fish are beautiful and I have always received good service, I just feel the sizes of portions could do with a little re think. I would recommend montys even with this said as like I say, the food has always been lovely.

Just had the Evening special of Small Fish, Chips, Peas & a Mug of Coffee... Being someone who worked in a Chippy for 5 years, can I just say this meal was done to perfection, the fish when cut was perfectly white & the batter was lovely and crispy. The chips where lovely & fluffy white inside & the mushy peas were the cherry on the top of this gorgeous meal.. I just had to complement the guyz when I walked out... Take care & you can bet I'll be visiting again.....

As others have said, pricing was all over the place it was hard to make sense of. Turns out it was unbelievably expensive. 40 quid for fish and chips for 4!! Fish was so greasy, covered in orange oil slick that leaked out of the packaging, through the bag and dripped onto our floor. Not good.

We live in a town with three very poor fish and chip outlets. However, this doesn't stop us wanting this British staple. The answer? A sixteen mile drive to 'Monty's'. The service is excellent and the food....outstanding! We had the fish special - a slightly smaller portion which perfectly suits our appetites - and everything was just as good as on our previous visits. Thank you to all at 'Monty's', we will be back.
