We enjoyed plaice and chips, and steak and mushroom pie with roast potatoes, green vegetables and a large pot of gravy. And tea. And redeemed money off coupons received as presents.

Such a charming place, a proper old school cafe restaurant. Lovely, fresh food, hearty portion sizes. They are brilliant with children, we ordered the free 'baby meal' of mash, veg and gravy for our 16mo, she cleared her plate, so certainly approved! We ate in the restaurant with table service, the staff were great, super attentive and friendly.

Went as a group of 5, 3 adults and 2 children. We were seated within 3 minutes of arriving. What a lovely warm and welcoming atmosphere. The staff were very polite and attentive. The food was exceptional, the children's menu was ideal and both children were more than happy with their meal and pudding. An overall excellent experience and we will definitely be returning to explore more of the menu.

It was my first time in the soup kitchen and I was pleasantly surprised, you kinda walked in to the old part of the building Tudor style then into a more modern part, very quirky, the service was great and very welcoming, the food was good too, I went for more of an old school style meal, sarnie, salad, soup and a portion of crisps all on one plate, very well presented, the only negative part was that my girlfriend wasn't there with me and I was visiting from out of town but I will be making a visit again to the soup kitchen soon and with my girlfriend

Really friendly. A beautiful old building, but with a welcoming atmosphere inside. Tasty food for when you need a satisfying lunch.

We are old Staffordians who returned for a meet up with friends at the old Soup Kitchen. It has the same old charm it always used to have but has grown in size since we were last here. Its a lovely place, there is no doubt. And a gem in the midst of a Stafford that is sadly declining to a drab looking place compared to how it used to be. The food was always great with good portions however times appear to be changing and the prices are not as keen as they used to be. An order of a medium latte and a tuna melt toastie resulted in a pretty small coffee and a toastie, beautifully presented and sliced diagonally, which was disappointing and didn't match up to the £13 or so quid paid for the two items. I know its a toastie and I guess we pay for the privilege of being in a nice place...but this was just taking the mick a bit. The other orders were slightly better but still missed the mark a little. The sandwich options looked a bit better and probably the best of the four dishes was the omelette, which at least satisfied our friend's hunger. The wait was a little long too as it was busy and the kitchen was obviously doing its best but couldn't fully keep up. Finally, our lunch trip ended with us having to buy a second lunch from somewhere else after we left to fill us up. Strangely after a number of years away, we have been invited back to the Soup kitchen for another get together next weekend with family...so we will see, but this time I definitely wont go for a toastie.

The best rosti I've had bar none been here a few times with family and the food is always fresh and tasty service is completed with in a reasonable time and staff are friendly and professional nothing is to much trouble the atmosphere feels authentic and though the restaurant can become busy at times it always feels calm and very well organised
