The Plough, Huddlesford
Huddlesford Ln, Whittington, Lichfield⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ (4/5 – roaring fire, massive salad energy, and proper cosy pub charm)
The Plough in Huddersfield is one of those pubs that feels like a warm hug… until you sit too close to the fire and realise you’re slowly being roasted like a Sunday dinner.
We went with my husband (and the dog, who immediately decided this was his pub now), and honestly — first impressions were great. Busy, lively, full of that proper pub charm where everyone looks like they’ve been coming for years.
The fire?
Absolutely roaring. Glorious. Atmospheric. Slightly aggressive if you sit too close. At one point I wasn’t sure if I was dining or being gently slow-cooked.
Food-wise — really tasty. Proper hearty pub food, and that seems to match what most people say — big portions, comforting meals, and the kind of food you actually came out for.
Now… let’s talk about the salad garnish.
I ordered my meal and it arrived with what I can only describe as:
? an entire independent salad experience.
Not a garnish. Not a side. A full personality.
I’m fairly certain it had life goals.
I sat there like:
“Am I eating this… or forming a relationship with it?”
Meanwhile my husband is happily eating, the dog is thriving, and I’m negotiating with lettuce like it’s a serious commitment.
The place was busy (always a good sign), but still had that friendly, relaxed feel. Staff were lovely — welcoming, helpful, and just the right amount of chatty.
The vibe overall:
? Cosy, especially with the fire (just… respect the distance)
? Dog-friendly (very important, dog fully approves)
?️ Big portions (including surprise salad marathons)
? Busy but in a good, lively way
Overall vibe:
? “Cosy country pub with great food, giant salads, and a fire that means business”
Final verdict:
Lovely place, great food, friendly staff, and full of charm… just sit at a safe distance from the fire and be prepared for the salad to arrive with confidence.
Would I go again?
Yes.
Would I sit slightly further from the fire next time?
Absolutely ?

The Bell Inn
27 Main St, Whittington, LichfieldLovely old pub in a pretty village with a large garden at the back. Food is OK, I had a veggie burger which wasn’t very good, my husband’s meal was ok. I wouldn’t eat there again but it’s good for a drink.

Whittington Arms Lichfield
Tamworth Rd, LichfieldI met a friend at the Restaurant and the service and food was very good. I got there early, but there were no opening times on the doors and there were lights on inside the Pub. trying to do a survey on another site was proving very difficult, possibly due to our Computer set up.
