Bar staff really nice. Bar area & restaurant attractive. Room fine (we stayed in room 5) but shower dreadful. Food less than average & wait time appalling to the point my stomach was hurting, waiting, I barely fancied my food when it arrived. Beef steak tart - hard pastry. Sea bass - average - mash pre-prepared, cold. It was alright, 6/10. Location good. What a shame these chains are taking over. Long Melford is quite lovely, however, definitely worth a visit.

Celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary by having a meal at the Black Lion whilst staying in Long MelfordVery good service from Holly who was friendly & very efficient throughout the evening.Food was superb, & the menu certainly has something for everyone & just that little bit different.Would definitely recommend a visit for a meal, & from what we saw if looking to stay in the area worth checking out the rooms.

We were in Long Melford with friends and decided on the spur of the moment to have lunch. Thankfully The Black Lion has an online booking system which made the reservation process so quick and easy. We had not eaten here before but had heard good reports. It did not disappoint. The menu choices were excellent and the food and wine superb and reasonably priced. The service was exemplary, I love it when the waiting staff show passion about the menu and our waiter shared his knowledge about the food, sustainability etc which added to the enjoyment of the visit. We had a fabulous lunch and will be back.

I actually met my husband working here in 2000 so it's a special place for us. It's a beautiful place, recently refurbished and super dog friendly. Actually above and beyond dog friendly. Great food. Great atmosphere, great service. Can't wait to go back

Just had a superb Sunday lunch at the Black Lion, the food exceed all our expectations, the decor was just beautiful, and the service was exceptional. We had our very first date here 7 years ago, and this was our first visit since then. It was just as good as all those years ago. Highly recommend this place for some quality food and a beautiful location.

We stayed in luxury room 1. It was large with a view of the green. The bed was comfortable. However, we found the room drab and dingy and needed freshening up. As soon as we walked in we noticed the carpet was ruffled and needed relaying or replaced. There were rows of carafes on shelves which was a strange decoration. I can't imagine they were for drinking out of because they had not been cleaned for ages and you could draw pictures on the dust on them. The bathroom door did not lock, nor did it close properly. It had a wobbly door knob. A dirty toilet brush was clearly visible. The breakfast was quite good. The staff were friendly and helpful. For what we paid, this was disappointing value. The management need to pay more attention to the small details.

I enjoyed a great meal with friends here last night. This venue has a nice ambiance with friendly staff. The food was well presented and cooked perfectly. Desserts looked lovely but we were too stuffed! They have a good wine list. We will certainly be back for more!

We stayed for 3 nights in a standard snug room. It was certainly snug but the shower was one of the best we have experienced. Such a good price we should not quibble but I thankfully took earplugs as traffic noise was disturbing. The food is utterly divine. The breakfast was the best I have ever eaten and that includes Michelin star. The dinner was good but not as note worthy as breakfast. The staff are wonderful. My only recommendation would be for the public room on the left as one enters to be made a lounge where one could eat but there were comfortable chairs and sofas. However, I realise it may mean less revenue generated. All in all I would certainly recommend.

We stayed at The Black Lion for the Easter weekend. We had a snug room which was great value for money and very comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome. I would thoroughly recommend the restaurant. My partner had the steak and I had the bass fillet with a shellfish bisque which was one of the tastiest meals I’ve ever had! Highly recommended and Long Melford is a lovely little village. We’ll definitely be back!
