We've been going to the Beach Bistro in Southwold for a few years and have always enjoyed the food.LocationThe fish n' chip shop is ideally and centrally located at the entrance to the pier. You can get access from either outside or from inside the arcades. Loads of seating are available outside, ideal when the weather cooperates but not so good when in the rain. Occasionally, we'll hire a beach hut, bring it back, and eat inside our hut - it's such a great way to enjoy fish and chips at the seaside!PriceWe've always found the price to be quite reasonable. We've previously ordered some bespoke items (such as calamari), which is perhaps more on the punchy side, but otherwise, it's pretty much what you'd expect to pay at the coast.FoodThe food is superb! An easy 5-star from all of us. The fish is super tasty, cooked well, and has a nice crispy batter. The fish portion size is reasonable (not too large or too small) and consistent. The chips are also great. Maybe the fish-to-chip ratio is slightly off (a few more chips would be appreciated), but honestly, that's just a minor criticism. Otherwise, all good-If you're in Southwold, you've got a few potential spots for traditional seaside food, but I don't think you can go much wrong at the Beach Bistro. Thanks, we'll be back soon.Kid-friendliness: The Beach Bistro is next to the arcades at the pier, and kids are welcome.Parking: There’s plenty of paid parking, few a couple of mins from the pier.

Broke my tooth on a stone embedded in a chip.I'm aware potatoes can get stones in them, however I noticed a crunch on the first chip, then the second cracked my back molar.Looking through the chips I found 2 others with stones just on the top layer of my portion.I attempted to explain this to the manager, who wasn't at all interested. No apology, not even bothered. The knowing look from a younger member of staff said it all. I hope no one else broke their tooth that day.

Had battered sausage and chips. Felt like it took forever, they even put closed on the door and there were a lot of people waiting. Had banter with others waiting, but it was eventually worth it.Sausage was a little too crispy for me and the seagulls are a noisy nuisance.Parking: There is no parking on siteWheelchair accessibility: Saw steps into the business, didn't see any ramps around.

It is a typically reassuringly expensive seaside chippy! Other food is available from the menu and you can eat in but it was far too busy when I visited. I had takeaway fish and chips (Cod) and sat outside. The food was cooked ok, reasonably tasty and was hot.

We had the best fish and chips here, very friendly, welcoming bunch and accommodated to our gluten free needs too! Thank you so much! :)Dietary restrictions: Gluten free batter available

The pricing on the menu seems very reasonable, but most of the food is abysmal. For £6 we got 7 small, over cooked, kept warm bit of scampi. This was bad enough, but the menu board explicitly says it is whole tail scampi. I can with 100% say it is not!The batter on the sausage was over done and the sausage itself poor quality. The chips were actually quite good, but I suspect they are one of the few things that aren't kept warm for long periods of time.

Worst portion of chips I've had in a very long time. Like they were recooked from the previous evening. So bad even the seagulls wanted a refund!

The fish was awful, didn’t taste right there was a thin layer of uncooked batter and the chips were very greasy

Appalling. A handful of very cold chips and the smallest piece of fish you could imagine for 6.95. I've never had a bad experience of a fish and chips before. Must have gone to a different place last time we visited Southwold as that other place was amazing. Very sad indeed... such a waste of money.

fish was small and soggy, chips werent hot and not at all crispy. outrageous the fact that you have to pay just for a pot of tomato ketchup or tartare sauce! very expensive for what you get, dont reccomend at all!

Disgusting food over priced and stodgy! Well over done chicken nuggets that were hatd as anything I do not recommend this place at all! It used to be a nice seating area with cheery tables now its just a large room with junk in the corner doing ice creams in the freezer but theres nothing in there but the grumpy staff and horrid food and disgusting smell!

Should have read the reviews before we went, must be the worst and most expensive fish and chips we have ever had, chips were undercooked, soggy and stuck together and the fish was tasteless.don’t bother.

On the plus side the fish was hot but was also small, thin, covered in under cooked, stodgey batter which gave the fish flesh a nasty yellowish tint. The chips were cold, greasy and generally broken/mashed up. Can't recall the exact price we paid but if a cup of tea was not in excess of £3 a cup we were over charge. The experience did not leave us with a pleasant taste in our mouth. Begrudge giving them one star!
