The Sunday roast is delicious and really good value, plus it has cauliflower cheese, I’d highly recommend and we’ll be back. I dropped the service down as it was a little slow but nothing that bothered us too much as we weren’t in a rush.

A warm welcome, lovely food, and stunning views across the sea.

A married couple on a flying visit to Southwold, we parked near the Pier (this was Winter by the way) and headed straight to The Boardwalk Restaurant for refreshments. We were immediately seated, and our order for hot chocolates arrived in good time. Accompanied by a slice of 'cake-of-the -day' (lemon drizzle) it made for a quite pleasant few minutes while we watched a fisherman on the rocks/beach nearby. Your reviewers wife also went for soup and bread, and this appeared to be quite tasty as well. Go here for prompt service and cracking hot chocolate.

Food was nicely cooked but a little lacking in flavour. Coffee was excellent, Americano like it should be. Nice dessert. Service was very good.Parking: Large p&d car park near pier, always busy though, otherwise street parking.Kid-friendliness: Children welcome, kids menus offered.

An extremely delicious meal, cooked to perfection and served by extremely attentive waiting staff.

I don’t know if it’s because this cafe / restaurant is situated on the pier, which leads me to think that it’s a low quality touristy place, but I keep being surprised by the quality of the food. I’ve now been here a few times in the last three or four years, always with family, and never been disappointed. On this occasion, we were a group of three adults and two children and, again, we all had an excellent meal. I had chicken caesar salad which was very tasty. The portion size was large with a very generous serving of warm chicken breast. The other two adults had homemade tomato soup with some fresh granary bread which, they said, was delicious. The children’s meals were a pasta dish that was enormous, and defeated my ten year old grandson, and a small fish and chips that my eight year old granddaughter enjoyed but couldn’t finish either! Food and service were spot on and there’s clean loos too! Overall, great value for money. No doubt we’ll return in another year when I’ll again be saying how surprised I am by the quality of the food!

Excellent food, attentive staff. Fish and chips were great even though the weather was not good. Cheered us up

We chose this restaurant ( Sat 21st) as it offered Gluten Free fish n chips. From the moment we walked in the staff were very attentive and helpful. When I mentioned being GF they couldn’t do enough for me. I was even offered GF vinegar ( I’ve never been offered this anywhere else). It was quiet (5pm and the end of storm Babet) so we had a choice of where to sit. It was lovely to have GF food overlooking the sea. Both mine and my husbands ( not GF) fish and chips were amazing and the crushed peas were lovely. I’ve only ever been offered normal or mushy peas elsewhere. The presentation was good too. I was surprised to see a couple of poor reviews as we couldn’t fault our food or experience. The restaurant could do with a lick of paint/ re-decorate but I’m sure this is a winter job they would do after a busy summer and heavy footfall. Overall I was very happy. Thanks guys ( can’t remember individual names ) and keep up the good work.

The restaurant was very busy as it was half term so it took a while for our order to arrive, my young son was getting fed up. One dish was slightly incorrect but was immediately corrected. The restaurant staff were very polite and helpful. However, the Fish Finger Sandwich was disappointing. Two very tiny pieces of fish cooked in batter that was hard and oily, difficult the eat. I would have sent it back but the thought of waiting longer put me off. Not sure I would go back.

Had a fantastic meal here, we are tricky as I am gluten intolerant and my partner is lactose intolerant, but nothing was too much trouble. Food was delicious and service was excellent. Will definitely come again.Dietary restrictions: Gluten free onion rings were fantastic

It's not what it used to be. Menu is very poor, OK if you just want fish & chips (maybe) it used to be great with excellent menu, afternoons with scones, cakes etc. All gone. What a shame!

What a fantastic lunch we have had at the Boardwalk. Very good 3 courses, friendly service & highly entertaining interactive theatre throughout. Faulty Towers cast are authentic Sybil, Basil & Manuel. Great Pantomime.

6 of us stopped here today, 3 of us had the crab sandwiches with chips and salad at £18 a pop, while the chips were really nice, the white bread it came with, wasn't fresh, we sent them all back and asked for brown (we were surprised we weren't offered a choice anyway and brown usually is offered with fish normally?) Anyway the dishes were replaced and we had brown seedy bread, we were very happier with, the filling could have been more substantial, but what there was tasted nice. 2 of the men went for the roast pork again at £18 a plate, pork was thin and not much of it, potatoes and Yorkshire's were packet frozen ones and veg was over cooked, no crackling or apple sauce, we were all left disappointed with the experience as Bill came to over £127 including a couple of beers, apple juice, 2 x diet coke, it was very much cafe fare at restaurant prices, would not return.

This is not a review I ever wanted to write, as we have been regular customers at the Boardwalk for many years, but today was a total disaster. It took 50 minutes to prepare 2 chicken ceasar salads (1 gluten free) when the food finally arrived, the chicken was very dry, almost powdery, and the salad had so little dressing, that too was dry. We couldn't finish the meals, they were so bad, we complained and to the credit of the front-of-house manager, we didn't pay for the meals. But the chef must have hated salads, because what was delivered was a culinary crime. All the other diners seem to have got their food in good time and to a reasonable standard. The Boardwalk isn't a fancy restaurant, but we have always had good honest food from there in the past. I hope today was just a glitch with the kitchen staff, but I'm loathe to go back until I've sent someone else to try them out first It takes a long time to get a regular customer and only one bad meal to lose them.......
