The Sun is very much a ‘local’. It is a basic, simple pub. The staff are pleasant. The food menu is more interesting than most and you will get 2-3 new dishes to try each visit. In my experience the quality varies but I really appreciate the effort to produce something new and interesting. We went for one Sunday lunch which was very generous, lots of choice and all under £20. Definitely worth a visit

To start off with the building is beautiful, with exposed beams, an open fireplace and interesting decor. I was here for a Christmas dinner with my fianceé's employers, the food was delicious, good portions and their Christmas menu was reasonably priced. I had beef short rib, it was cooked to perfection and just fell off the bone, followed by sticky toffee pudding which is one of the best I've ever tasted. Finally, the staff were very friendly and very attentive, checking in regularly to see if the table needed anything.

Their website states they are dog friendly and invites you to warm youself by the fireside after walking your dog. This sounded idyllic as my wife was at an event at the Aerodrome, meaning I could walk the dog and then enjoy a pint in the warm environs of a country pub whilst waiting for her. On entering the pub we immediately encountered a black dog (flat coat retreiver or similar), which I was told later by people outside belonged to the pub. I wasn't concerned as my dog is a gentle giant and loves other dogs. Almost immediately the pub dog started growling and then started to attack my dog. The lady behind the bar called him off, but only as far as the enterance to the lounge, thus preventing us going any further. There was no apology, in fact we were totally ignored. So we about faced and left, never to return and we will be passing on this experience to all our friends with dogs.

I have had a hundred pies here over the years. Last night's brisket and mushroom was the best ever. Not just me thinking that by the way. Congrats to everyone in the kitchen on Wednesday. SG

We really enjoyed our lunch here today after a Christopher Somerville walk around Sidney woods. They made us and our 2 Labradors most welcome and the food was delicious. I particularly enjoyed the onion soup.

Everything an old English pub should be. Lovely old building with exposed beams & log burner. Beautiful setting with tables on lawn out the front. Fantastic choice of ales and larger. Brilliant varied menu for all with specials. I had venison but wanted just about everything. - delicious! & finally staff were so friendly and welcoming. 5 stars guys. Keep it up!

Lovely pub with excellent service, very good food and ample choice of ales, larger and cider. Very nice outside space to have our food. It was our first time there but we'll certainly return when around that area. The lady behind the bar was very good and friendly and let's try different beers. The young lad waiter was also lovely. We highly recommend the Sun Inn!
