Fantastic vegetarian roast lunch and friendly staff.

With wood fires, comfortable seating, and accommodating dogs, the addition of good ale this place has the ability to make you feel at home. This was a great find and one we'll be visiting when we're down in

Busy, but the food is good. Take your walking shoes as across the road there are miles of fabulous walks to Box Hill and Headly Common. One of my favourite dog walking areas, absolutely stunning scenery.

Lovely meal during mother's day. Roast is more costly than other places but you get what you pay for, it was superb. Wish we went earlier as a roast is always better at the opening.Service was great, they even took the extra step to hand out a card and flower after we left.Looking forward to the next visit

"Menu was completely different then we looked on the restaurant’s website. Menu was also very limited and not many option to choose. I ordered barley risotto was slimy no taste or any texture. Other three people’s meals were also blend and not very delicious. One starter, olives and four main course ( 2 of them were vegan) and 3 drinks bill came £184. Also We realised we have been charged double on some drinks next day. Extremely expensive and now worth it."Food & drinks: "Menu was completely different then we looked on the restaurant website. Sat in bar area rather than restaurant for a quick drink and food so can't really give an informed comment.Difficult to park.

Great choice after a Box Hill

Lack of vegetarian food brought down my rating - only one main course on the whole menu was veggie. We did enjoy what food we had and the staff were super friendly.
The Running Horses is an excellent old coaching Inn (name is a bit of a give away) tucked into the shadow of Box Hill. Easy to find just off the A24 at Mickleham but not so easy to park. A fine selection of beers and a good lunchtime menu. A little pricey but the good food, service and atmosphere more than made up for it. £15 for a chicken club sandwich. It was full and very tasty. Open log fires gave it a cosy feel.

The Running Horses really is the best pub in Surrey, and beyond. Great atmosphere, a drinkers pub, as well as setting the right tone and atmosphere for exceptional food. Perfect for a post walk drink, casual lunch with kids, or a special occasion. There attention to detail and efforts to cater for food intolerances is where most pubs fall short, but the guys here make sure everyone feels welcome, and they make it easier for themselves by making dishes suitable for those with and without allergies etc....gluten free batter as standard for example, always vegan and veggie options. And it's NEVER a compromise.
