We arrived early Saturday evening and the restaurant was almost empty, the couple who ordered before us didn't get their food and ended up leaving hungry. It turns out the restaurant was busy with take away orders, fair enough it was a Saturday, but we could have been told wait times when ordering. We suspect we (and the couple who left) had been forgotten about. We waited 45 mins for food but couldn't wait longer as we had a child with us who was hungry and would need to go to bed soon. We therefore requested to take away the food. When we got home we realised they had not included someone's food despite us paying for it. The food which was there wasn't exactly what we ordered either. We should have checked at the restaurant but we were in a hurry due to said child's bedtime. Most of our food was veggie. The vegetables were very overcooked and mushy, the dishes didn't have distinct flavours and most were very insipid. When we ordered we were told all the veggie dishes were vegan despite a lot clearly having paneer in, fair enough perhaps they're not a vegan specialist restaurant but they should know about allergens and I specifically asked about dairy. I normally don't leave negative reviews: if it had been one or two things wrong I would not have bothered to review but the wait time, incorrect order and poor food quality merited a review.

Hadn’t been for a while but we’re very impressed as change of staff two very pleasant young men. Who dealt with us very attentively.

Don’t know if it was because I was a bit drunk but all I know is that it was probably one of the best curries I’ve had to date. My brother remarked that his butter chicken was by far the best he’d ever had as well.

Sorry can't give you a good review.Ordered butter chicken and tandoori tika masala. Both meals very dissapointing no heat and the chicken came in what can only be described as gravy, no onions or and other vegetable in it.Chicken in the butter chicken was chewy and the tika masaka chicken had no tika taste.Didn't even get any free poppadoms like most restaurants give you.Would not recommend or use again.

A delicious meal share resenty at the Bala Spice. Despite the restaurant being busy the staff were efficient and the food of excellent quality and unlike any Indian food tasted before. We took our leftovers home for the next day where they were much enjoyed. If I had a complaint it would be the music which could have been more authentic and the lack of ice cream which would have been an excellent way to round off our very much enjoyed meal. The food served in this restaurant must be the closest to genuine Indian cuisine there is. A quality meal.N.

We ordered butter tikka chicken with garlic rice , balti , mix grill and few poppadoms with pickle tray, the total of this meal was £50. Would it be fair enough if meal would be nice but that was just vile? We are from South Yorkshire, we do have Indian takeaway probably once a month but that was the worst Indian ive ever had. It literally put me off from having it ever again. My butter chicken came as 2 layers , layer of see-through grease on bottom of tray and very yellow curd looking cream with floating chicken. Chicken inside was weird, weird shape and like a rubber! After 1st bite I felt sick as chicken shouldn't have rubber texture and taste of nothing. The butter curry tasted off. I've had loads of butter chicken curries in my life but that was nothing like any other! Sweet and sour, cream was a bit like cheese , curded. Awful taste. My partner said his balti it's like a meat with Ketchup, it had a weird texture and colour, he's 100% sure it was a Ketchup ? The mix grill was also weird, I've never seen anything like it! Can't even tell you what meat was it as it was round looking meat but it wasn't mince , it was round ball looking meat, chewy and rubbery. How the fck meat can be rubbery and chewy if was on grill? That meat never seen a grill!!!! We were hungry so we did give it a go but only one or two bites each, rest went to bin. So yeah I felt a bit angry that I've spend £50 on meal which went straight to bin. I've had Indian takeaway in London, in Birmingham, in Blackpool, in Cornwall, Liverpool, Sheffield, and everywhere else but that one in Bala wasn't a curry. Whoever cooked that need sacking !!!

So expensive and not even the correct portion size for the amount you pay… won’t be turning up here

I have eaten Indian food all over the world and I can say that this restaurant is the worst and most expensive I've ever had, it was atrocious.

Not a good place at all good was well below standards service and atmosphere same very poor as it’s the only one in Bala there’s no competition so don’t think will change anything at all the only good thing was you could take your own booze in with you

Nice clean restaurant and toilet. Friendly staff and the food was good. It was cash only, I don't know if that was due to a problem. Also no alcohol is served but you are welcome to take your own. A cash point and drinks are both available across the road. It was quiet when we were in.

Exceptionally over priced and an awful night sleep after. Service was ok in fairness. But I would avoid again until prices come down.

Food really good, service good and you are generally served quickly. The only downsides is the price doesn’t match what they charge you for it and they only except cash!

Went on a Saturday night - very busy. No music but other diners gave it atmosphere.Food nice - not sensational but nothing like inedible like other recent reviews suggest.Prices higher than places local to me but it's a holiday town with limited options so it's supply and demand. As others have said, cash only makes it feel VAT iffy. BYO alcohol is neither here nor there - if you're bringing your own I would suggest getting it from Bargain Booze rather than Co-op as prices better and more variety.
