Used to frequent this hostelry some 40 years ago whilst courting and was always a favoured haunt. Nice to see things haven't changed a lot, still a warm welcome, nice main meal for two with drinks circa £50. Food was good, wine was decent. Peaceful lunch with a nice cosy logburner on the go on a very wet spring day. Lovely.

We called in here on spec whilst narrowboating on the Mon and Brec. Excellent service and one of the best meals we've enjoyed out in a long time. All was served very hot, plenty of it and friendly staff. We certainly plan to return (though as we live in Devon it's a bit of a journey for an evening out!) Thanks very much!Nearby activities: The Mon and Brec Canal is great for boating and walking.

Team had misplaced our booking, not a good start! Food very disappointing, best meal over our Christmas period was a home cooked one! Just received £100 parking fine for parking in pub car park in order to drop off and pick up 92 year old mother! Will not be going again

We turned up today looking a bit bedraggled after a very wet walk along the canal but were greeted warmly and shown to a table despite not having booked and with an equally wet dog in tow! Both the landlady and waitress were very friendly and welcoming and the food was lovely and reasonably priced. I had the seafood chowder which was delicious, and my sons had the pork belly special and the fish and chips - good sized portions for the price. We will definitely return when in the area again.

We are regulars for family lunch when down from London. Always great hospitality and cooking. Should have written earlier, but today's lunch was just exceptional. "Fish and chips" understates the tempuraresque sole with Sean's tartare sauce. But son and I had best ever fresh "seafood chowder" - a gourmet version of the New England version = spoiler alert.

Very disappointed with some of the plates of food served last night. Three out of the six of us ordered the special chowder. Unfortunately, there was nothing special about it. I would not serve a dish like that in my own home. It looked as though it had been frozen, defrosted, reheated and placed under a heat lamp. A member of staff informed us that it always looks like that. Nobody around the table recognised it as chowder. We were offered to order a different dish.

Purchased 6 pints and still had to pay a parking fine for use of their car park. Ridiculous venue that doesn't remind customers to sign in. Their staff are always rude. We are locals in Llangynidr and will never visit this pub again.

We stopped here for food on a Sunday and only thing on offer was a Sunday lunch not everyone enjoys this meal myself included. We had to sit in a field across the road from the pun as it was that full, the food was cold and hard and tasted like it had been cooked a while, was very disappointed with this meal as the food is usually beautifulFood & drinks: Drinks are reasonably priced but food on this occasion was awful

What a hidden gem. We didn't expect such fabulous food in a country pub. A seafood platter beyond compare! Amazing service and super dog friendly too. Highly recommended.

We met friends last Saturday for dinner and had great fish (turbot) and our friends thoroughly enjoyed their Katsu chicken. There was a great atmosphere and we enjoyed great service
