We have been going to the Angel inn for many years, as we felt the place had a special feel about it, the staff are normally friendly and sociable but lately we have noticed how it is not as good as it use to be. The main issue last week was the chips, they looked as it they had been cooked earlier in the day, they were dry, tasteless and had that over cooked look. We did tell the waitress but there was no response or reaction. We then ordered a lemon cheesecake. When it came out is was a basic cheesecake (bookers / costco I presume) with no flavour with a lemon drizzle sauce over it. Again very disappointed. Time for a change now.

I think this place has been unfairly reviewed however my experience was short and only stopped here for a couple of drinks therefore can't review the food but the beers were nice and the staff were efficient and friendly. We enjoyed our experience.

A beautiful venue, beautifully decorated with friendly staff. My husband had the salmon pasta dish which looked lovely and he enjoyed. A disappointing meal if you are vegetarian however. All the old "favourites", curry, burger, lasagne, risotto. I choose the mushroom risotto which was sadly very overcooked and quite flavourless... was more like a porridge. The parsnip curls were curled but floppy and so thinly shaved they had lost all taste. The buttered beans were a mix of dryish peas, cabbage, chewy broad beans and some french beans... with no butter. When will pubs realise vegetarians like to to eat good food just like everyone else? Such a shame.

Steer clear of such a place if you are a person of colour! They put a dampener on such a wonderful tourist attraction!

Popped in for a drink after doing some gorge walking nearby. Super friendly staff. Nice range of drinks. Food looked excellent so planning a return to eat

The staff definitely hate their jobs at this pub! We went there with the family on the 25th August after making an attempt to a couple of other pubs nearby which had no space. Of course this pub had plenty of space and there was one of the staff outside who was smiling at everyone passing trying to bring them in… once you are in there is no smile. The food quality is below average and is very greasy. Terrible experience.

A group of 7 of us had been visiting the waterfalls nearby and decided to stop at this pub we saw on the way home. We were split into two tables to the side of the entrance outside, which we didn’t mind. Service The staff served one group of us and then forgot the other until the first group asked them to take our order! We were told there was a 45 minute wait on food (but the first group had already ordered and were not told this). We agreed. The food took 1 hour and 10 minutes to arrive! We had trains to catch and had to miss two of the next ones, when we’d arrived with plenty of time. They did not ask if we wanted refills and we had to ask them to actually take our drink order, the first time we were told someone would and then we asked again and eventually got some more drinks. It felt like the staff had forgotten us on the side or didn’t care as we could see them serving other tables well. Food The food itself was subpar and overpriced. Most mains on the menu were £12.99 and for that price you expect great service and amazing food; this was neither. My partner’s steak and ale pie was more a stew with puff pastry on top. Even the peas were overdone and mushy to taste. My beef lasagne was okay but I would begrudge paying over £8.99 for it. The cheese was very stringy and I wondered if it had been microwaved (I’d give them the benefit of the doubt it hadn’t). The chips were the best part and even they were pale and undercooked. Prices For the atrocious service and subpar food the prices are far too expensive. I don’t mind paying that for a lovely pub meal but this place somehow managed to get even the basics wrong. Gordon Ramsay would have a whale of a time in there! Conclusion I don’t write reviews usually unless the place is really or astoundingly poor service and this was the latter. I’m actually shocked an establishment can get pub food and service that wrong. I try and avoid blaming staff so must just assume the management and running of this pub is the reason behind it. It was a real shame as we’d had a great day and this pub really put a dampener on things.

Always a good sign when you are greeted by such warm and friendly staff and the landlady also. Very accommodating and a beautifully kept establishment, spotlessly clean and very efficient. We ordered starters and a main course and was not disappointed, Steak and Ale pie was just superb and the best I have tasted in a long time. Thoroughly enjoyed our evening here and felt well rested after a long day Trekking, one to note to visit again when in the area.

A very traditional pub interior. We sat outside in the sun and had a delicious lunch and a very generous portion size which was much appreciated.
