We stayed for two nights on a Winter Warmer package, in a garden room and used the Spa whilst there. We had a fantastic time.Location was beautiful and there were stunning views over the lake, with lots of birds to watch from the restaurant. The hotel itself was well equipped, it had a lot of charm. It had a traditional feel and we felt relaxed and welcome there. Staff were friendly. It was very warm in the building, so cosy but to be honest not my preference, and we cooled our room right down. Spa facilities were good for the price and treatments were outstanding. We enjoyed the food, it was incredibly tasty, but found the vegetarian options limited.Overall, we’d recommend a visit as somewhere to switch off, unwind and go slowly.Rooms: Spacious, quiet and loved the bedding. Mattress was a little soft but we slept well. Bathroom had a great shower and bath. It was a very warm hotel so we needed to open the windows. Decor was traditional and cosy. Lots of personality and charm.

We visited the spa day for my girlfriends birthday. Having spent £220 for a treatment with afternoon tea we were expecting a lovely day.Whilst the spa was beautiful and the treatment was very good, the hotel reception and the dining experience were really poor. The sandwiches were dry, the notes we had left for my girlfriend's life threatening nut allergy had not been shared so we ended up wit a mis match of clearly frozen desserts which took an hour to come out. The staff were unhelpful and pretty rude, easily our worst ever afternoon tea experience by a long way.I have emailed the hotel to complain but they have ignored this.Shocking

I cannot fathom how this place is so highly rated. This was our fourth hotel on our 10 day vacation travelling around Wales. We stayed in properties ranging from £89 to the most expense of £235 at this property. This place was by far the worst of the 4. We arrived before check in to experience the afternoon tea. We had a great experience with the person who checked us in and was offered an early check in without requesting it. The woman was helpful and kind. Sadly things declined quickly from there. The man working the bar was beyond rude to every person who attempted to order something. He acted like everyone was an inconvenience and even went so far as to blatantly refuse to respond to people. We were seated by the bar for a quick drink and watched in shock at how poorly he was treating every customer. Prior to that, the girl who sat us for afternoon tea thought it was more important to socialize than seat us. After making eye contact numerous times as we patiently waited by the check in station, she kept pretending to not see us until we had to walk over to ask to be seated. The afternoon tea was disappointing and not at all worth the money. We had one the day before at chateau rhianfa that was the same price and amazing. But the worst was the room. I have never seen a bed with such bad sagging in a hotel. As expected it was unbelievably uncomfortable and very loud when you made even the slightest adjustment to get comfortable. If you have any issues with pressure points or back problems when sleeping, avoid this place at all costs. I had double hernia surgery a few weeks ago and still have some lingering discomfort and this bed was appalling. I did not experience any issues in the previous hotels, including the one that charged only £89. I cannot believe they would charge someone £235 to sleep on a bed like that. The room heating also randomly cranked up at about 1am and made the room unbearably hot. We paid an insane amount of money to have a terrible sleep and then changed our morning plans to get out of there straight away in the am. This was the worst part of an otherwise amazing trip. Yes, the view is nice, but there are many better places in wales with just as lovely views. I will make quick mention though of a lovely person working in the tavern. They were very personable and kind and were a bright spot in the evening. It is important to note that the bartender in the tavern and the front desk attendant deserve raises and should be training the other staff on customer service. *Please see the attached photo to see how evident the mattress sag is.

Fabulous place to stay with views over the lake. Very good cream tea at a reasonable price of £9.00 each. The room we stayed in was large with a great view. Good value at £130 including breakfast. Breakfast was very good, lots of choice. We had a full English but it includes a breakfast tray with juice, mini croissants, toast and jams.Would thoroughly recommend a stay here.Rooms: Large rooms with hot drink making facilities, fridge and lots of space. Very clean. Robes provided although small on my tall partner. Very well presented. Great views. No lifts so stair access only.

Visited the spa and restaurant during our trip to Wales. Beautiful building and stunning views of the lake. Was not entirely impressed with the spa facilities, advertised as a 'thermal suite' when really it is just a small jacuzzi, sauna and steam room with a shower and some loungers, nothing extraordinary apart from the views of course!Treatments were nice, but nothing screams luxury about the Spa, definitely cheaper options. The restaurant was a little dated, but you are only really looking at the view across the lake! Menu was small but had lots of variety, a little pricey but again your definitely paying for location...food was pretty incredible to be honest I was pleasantly surprised after being mis-sold the spa!Staff are very friendly and if you do go, you have to try the white chocolate and whisky tart... was stunning!

We stayed here for a birthday treat. There are a lot of lovely aspects to this hotel. The food is beautiful and some of the best food we have had for a long time. The reception team were super friendly and showed great care for their guests. We stayed in a lake view room and although the weather wasn't great it was still a stunning view. The hotel has such a wonderful location. Now...for the bad parts. The hotels decor, especially in the bedrooms needs a big upgrade and refurb. The decor is stuck very much in the past. For a 4* hotel the decor is probably more 2/3*. The same for the restaurant. The lounge area was lovely though. The views are beautiful and a real selling point. The hotel does look tired in places and needs a little bit of love and attention.Dinner service started very well. They knew about my food allergy & were very helpful with the menu. The staff member who welcomed us was very friendly. Food was fantastic. However, towards the end of the dinner service the staff just disappeared and were nonexistent. So much so that my partner had to get up and down so much to try find someone throughout the meal service another guest thought she was a member of the restaurant team! Not what you expect from a 4* hotel. The next morning we had spa & massage booked. The spa was decent enough and the atmosphere was fine to start although the changing rooms are ridiculously small. The massage was lovely. However, towards the end of the massage the hotel had sent a wedding party to get changed in the spa!! They weren't even using the spa! The last 10 minutes of the massage sounded like a football match. Not the relaxing atmosphere you associate with a spa - a wellness & relaxation area, especially for the price you pay. After the massage I could barely get access to my locker to get changed - the wedding party had taken over the dressing room and were drinking beers. I had to finish getting changed in the corridor. Not really the experience you expect from a 4* hotel when you've paid over £100 for the experience. After a massage you expect a calming and relaxing atmosphere. Not this! Probably the worst spa experience I've ever had.We spoke to the deputy manager afterwards to explain our disappointment and she wasn't interested one bit. She didn't listen to us and wasn't concerned by our terrible experience. She just kept saying 'i'll feed it back' but to who? You're the deputy manager!Due to the attitude she showed us after everything we had experienced during our stay, we will unfortunately never return to this hotel either personally or with my business clients. The hotel has a wonderful location with amazing views, amazing food and some fantastic staff members but is being let down by it's decor and senior management.
