Typical Wetherspoons, decent food and drinks for the price - nothing earth shattering. Staff could be more attentive in their service and proactive in ensuring tables are quickly cleaned and emptied, as on various visits we have had to clean tables ourselves and remove previous diners wares.

Decent rooms, an interesting building, and staff were great. The drinks were very cheap, always handy.Just a note, parking is in the public car park behind the hotel, paid via an app on your phone (see photo).Nearby activities: Stayed here after an annual Christmas walk in the hills around Ruthin.

We've stayed several times and it's always spot on. The staff are great and it's always clean and tidy. A cut above most Wetherspoons.

Wasn’t planned visit and only spent an evening in Ruthin. Price for two for one night was the most reasonable we found. We unexpectedly travelled up to Ruthin from South Devon and booked the Castle an hour before arrival. The town and area is great, the look of the Castle Hotel is impressive. Rooms great, mixed grill for dinner was great. Staff, super nice, hard working and relaxed. Breakfast was all you would need to start the day off right. thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Sounds like I’m advertising spoons for commission!!!So as a negative, the only thing we found annoying with room 105 was a buzzing sound which disturbed our sleep a bit, we thought it was the next door bathroom fan, we found out it was the electric consumer unit, before going going to bed, If you take your door card out of the “slot” that keeps the electrics on, the buzzing is not as loud, it would mean not having any lights but will be quieter. We’ve given it 5 stars because after a long trip finding this hotel was better than we had expected to find. Ruthin is a really nice place to visit. The Castle is in a great position in the centre of town, parking at the time was right outside. As a sort of bonus, the Castle Hotel was one of only 6 or so of the 55 Spoons hotels to be mentioned in this months Spoons magazine and we just happened to be there!! ( I’m easily pleased). Jo & Steve.Rooms: Mentioned about a buzzing noise that is loud enough to disturb sleep a bit. It’s like a transformer that keeps electrics on. When card is taken out of the slot, after a few minutes when the electric is “cut off” ( as if you have left the room and took your card with you), the buzzing reduces.Food & drinks: Mixed grill in evening was particularly good in the evening of arrival. Didn’t have a appetite in morning, but normally enjoy out Spoons breakfast in Newton Abbot.

I had the same meal as about 2 years ago and it was better than before. The room was well decorated and cleaned to a better standard plus an open fire which made it nice and warm.Nearby activities: Great little town with lots of other eating places to try.Food & drinks: As always food served hot and at a reasonable price.

Couldnt pay with legal tender £50 pound note the whole town accepted them but not the multi million pound bussines. I own a bussines and got paid off a job with them.. Had my children with me hungery and got refused to be served with legal

Walked in couldn’t get service , waited at the top end of bar staff passed by without acknowledging … several people in similar situation. It wasn’t over packed but was busy …

Nice wetherspoons. Just popped in for coffees. Very good quality Lavazza Coffee and very good value refillable hot drinks.

Possibly one of the best wetherspoons i have been to.Went with a few friends on our bikes, had 8 of us, we put 4 tables together, the staff happily accomodated us, we had food and drinks and it was just a great place that we will definitely be going to next time we are around.

Came here for a bite to eat on bonfire night. The place was busy but we couldn’t find a seat. We noticed that half of the pub area was cornered off and not open. When we asked a member of staff they said it was because there were not busy tonight. More like they couldn’t be bothered cleaning that area again. We went somewhere else instead as we couldn’t find a table. Very bad service.

The atmosphere inside was nice and quiet. Nobody was shouting. The bar staff could have been a bit quicker to serve. The menu was varied and sectioned off making it easier to find what you wanted. Payment is taken when you ordered. The food arrived quickly and was hot. There was condiments on a table close by so the table wasn't cluttered. The batter on the fish was very good on both occasions we ate there. Both times we ordered off the smaller plate option but the difference between the fish on the two days was not the same. The new cocktail with R Whites raspberry lemonade was delicious. The only problem I wanted the drink making upto a pint. The member of staff didn't know what to do, so made me two normal sized drinks. If we are ever in Ruthin again we will definitely revisit The Castle Hotel.

1. Food is great for the price.2. Service is not so great and staff, especially the dyed blonde hair older lady who just can't smile and obviously dislikes her job. Rude and unhelpful.3. Haven't stayed yet but the price for rooms and central location is a bargain. The beer garden is fabulous.Need to be more dog friendly as tourist attraction but I'm guessing this is a boring management decision which shows in staff attitudeNearby activities: Ruthin castle and Welsh countryside ActivitiesFood & drinks: Cheap nice food with great views
