This was a very quirky delightful hotel. The landlord and his grandson couldn’t have been more helpful and pleasant. Would certainly recommend

I came here with my family for a 50th birthday meal. Grace the manger, was wonderfully attentive - nothing was too much of a problem. The food was outstanding and amazing value. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience here and would highly recommend.

Grace was great front of house, the room was warm comfortable and suitably fabulous and we had a brilliant Christmas dinner. What more could you ask for?

Booked for 4 people. Rang to ask for menu’s to be emailed. They weren’t. Rang again and got them. Service was friendly enough. I thought the Christmas turkey lunch was bland and the potatoes tasted like smash (for those of you that can remember that) Didn’t offer cranberry sauce, I had to go to ask in the kitchen. Dessert was ok but the baileys and mint cheesecake tasted of mint but no baileys. Coffee was lukewarm and cold mince pies. Very disappointed overall. I think this is the worst meal we have had at the Lion in all the times we have been for lunch/dinner.

My sister booked a birthday party Saturday 10th December for 7 people. We had a lovely welcome and were shown to our table and offered drinks. We had a lovely 3 course meal, beautifully prepared and served with attention to detail with great customer service, attentive and easy going. The food was amazing, the Sea Bass main course presented on a bed of deliciously creamy mashed potato with 2 lovely roasted potatoes and superb range of seasonal vegetables, just enough, not too much! My dessert was the chocolate mousse with fruit pearls, just perfect! Amazing value!! £25ish for a 3 course Christmas meal, (not sure of the exact price as I didn't pay the bill for the food) It ticks a box for me too that it has a Food Hygiene Rating of 5 stars (2/03/20), my business being all about food hygiene! The decor is arty, different, and unconventional, and it works :D

Our second stay at the Lion, and once again it was superb. Rooms are epic; this time we stayed in ‘Fire’ which was super cozy and quirky, with a fabulously comfortable bed. We were a group of 6 friends and had booked in for dinner. The Christmas menu was superb, everything prepared extremely well, and all delicious. Staff were really helpful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. After a great night’s sleep we had a super tasty breakfast, all cooked fresh and, again, absolutely delicious. We’ll definitely be back.

Our group of six buddies decided to treat ourselves to a night away at this delightful hotel and bistro. Four of us had been previously but it was a new experience for my partner and me. We were not disappointed. This wonderful, quirky historical building has been beautifully decorated in the most colourful, imaginative and artistically skilled fashion, it was a joy to be involved. Our meal from the festive menu was superb and the service faultless. Right down to the brilliant evening entertainment from local musicians, we couldn't have been made more welcome or wished for a lovelier time. We also had a gorgeous complimentary breakfast in the morning. We were made to feel very special and will definitely be staying again. I would most certainly recommend this wonderful place to anyone for a visit, not to me missed!

£110 for B&B. Quirky decor but large well furnished room and good shower. Carpets needed a hoover (not dirty, not spotless) Breakfast not available due to gas works, not pre-informed though manager kept insisting we would have been. We were not!!! Tea and toast sufficed, bread unremarkable supermarket loaf .... but great bakery next door. Dinner was nearly good, very tasty lamb dish. Wine list all seemed unavailable. Great party in the pub, a real experience!

We were holidaying in our caravan and called into The Lion for a late afternoon drink. The atmosphere was so friendly, staff lovely and accommodating that we booked in for dinner on the Saturday night. The dinner was very good, promptly served and a decent price. Will definitely visit again next time we are in the area.

Called for sunday lunch today 30/10/2022. The staff provided a brilliant level of service and the chef made me something that wasn’t on the menu. We had excellent banter with the bar and waiting staff. We were all very pleased with all aspects of the meal. Would highly recommend.

We (my husband, son and myself) often visit the lovely village of Berriew. We have a static caravan near Welshpool. We were spending the week at the caravan to close it down for the end of season. We have dined in the tea shop but have never been in the Lion Hotel. We planned to eat at the tea shop but there were no tables available so on the off chance we called in to the Lion. We were warmly welcomed by the Assistant Manager. We asked for the lunch menu and were shown into the amazing dining room. We chose baked potato with beans and the other with cheese. My husband chose the welsh rarebit. Our drinks were brought promptly to our table and the food followed soon after. The food was excellent and beautifully presented. The chef came out to ask us if the food was okay. When my husband said the Welsh rarebit was the best he had ever tasted she said it was the first time she had cooked it. We would not hesitate to recommed the Lion to anyone looking for somewhere that bit special to eat. The Assistant Manager told us about the Monday Club where 2 courses are available for £10. We will certainly take advantage of this offer if it is still available in March 2023 when we return.

We have been staying in the area for years and have never been here but saw the Monday lunch deal and couldn't resist. Really simple menu but caters for everyone and 2 courses for just £10. The service was amazing with such attentive staff, the food was delicious and the décor was stunning. We'll definitely be returning.
