Lovely country pub findThe landlady is very welcoming and hospitable.Didn't eat on this occasion, but guessing the food would be locally sourced and good.Definitely recommend a visit.

The second time I've visited and this place is a gem! It's a proper old pub serving decent ales and a selection of other drinks. The food is mostly home made and absolutely delicious. We had steak pie, chips and cauliflower cheese which was all very nice indeed. Home made desserts include hot chocolate fudge cake and the biscoff cheesecake which was amazing! The pub and gardens are quirkily decorated and very unique...in a good way. Linda runs the pub on her own and I found her to be very chatty and extremely pleasant. Like many people I use much busier pubs, but you cannot compare the two, she has one day off a week and rarely takes a holiday in order to keep this place open. Having read some of the poor reviews it seems that not everyone understands how a country pub has to operate in order to survive, by catering primarily for its regulars. I would strongly recommend booking in advance. I will pop in here every time I'm passing. Despite some comments it is less than a mile from the canal bridge 102, slightly uphill and a 20 minute walk at a reasonable pace.

Absolutely lovely place. We came here for an evening meal from the canal (the hill up to the pub is a little steep, at least it's downhill on the way back!!) and it did not disappoint at all. We were recommended this place by three people when asking where to eat and we can see why. Absolutely perfect service, the manager was the sweetest lady I've met in a long old time. The food was bloody brilliant! It was our last night on our rental boat, and this was the perfect way to end our holiday. Many, many thanks!!

Great place. Lovely garden, bit of a walk from the canal.. 10.. 15 mins. I've never timed it. But good to walk back after a lovely meal. Staff very friendly. Will certainly visit every time I'm in the area.

We stopped of here whilst returning on a canal boat to Braunston. To be honest I’m a bit bemused by the five star reviews. We had to find our own menus to start with, then waited ages to place an order. The fish was oily, the steak pie looked like someone had sat on it and the two rare and one medium rare steaks were so overcooked the children could not eat them. The best thing on the plates was the peas! We then waited for the plates to be cleared and my wife’s plate was left in front of her for 20 minutes after the rest were cleared. The drinks were fine, not a bad selection of ales. For the amount we paid we left a bit disappointed and to be honest we were disappointed by the whole experience.

3 of us booked in for a satisfying dinner - we had fish and chips, steak pie, lasagne. Proper food, generous portions with really attentive team. Lots of locals in for a few drinks and/or food which is a great sign.

We stopped off here for dinner on the way back from a 4-day stay on the canal. We reserved a table for 8 and was greeted by Linda the landlady/owner (I think). She pretty much runs everything single handily. but you are never kept waiting, the food served is on time, plentiful and cooked to perfection (esp. the Steak Pies). I've not been to many places like it that make you feel so welcome. Highly recommend a visit....and a game of skittles whilst there!!!

My interaction with the server was great food was good but...dispite reserving by phone the day before tables not reverved first come first serve and not just for food so we were pushed up in corner by a open door to the garden and it was cold and raining

Very nice and cosy place. Well hidden from main roads. That is why you need to take some extra effort to get there. But it's worth it.

Extremely welcoming & friendly landlady Linda. Lovely garden. Great food. Traditional pub menu with most dishes having a vegetarian option. We went for lunch. Open 12.30pm to 3pm. Reasonable prices. Will definitely be going back to enjoy great pub in peaceful surroundings.
