Came on for breakfast on a quiet Sunday morning with 3 others. The 4th of February 2024. Staff were very nice. But coffee was awful! Asked for a latte it was basically just a cup of warm milk no coffee.. the 2 cappuccinos were the same.. And food came out everything was cold. Literally not even cooked properly. Mushrooms were the worst ive tasted! So disappointed. All chucked on the plate no pride in presentation at all!Used to be a good tea room! For the price you pay you except quality. The staff need to take more pride in there appearance too! Scruffy looking!

Good place to get a light snack when you are in

This is a lovely place for a cup of coffee and a cake or something a bit more filling. The town was busy and even with the many choices of places to eat they all seemed to be full. We spotted The Buttery, the menu outside looked nice so we popped in. There was only one table free so we were lucky to sit straight away. The atmosphere inside was really nice, you do sit quite close together but with everyone eating and chatting it felt cosy.I had a fish finger sandwich with tartar sauce which came with a salad and crisps on the side and a black coffee, both were really nice. It's really pretty inside with the original arches, the building dates from the 12th century and is just by the Cathedral.Service was quick and the staff were all very attentive and happy which was lovely. The price was good, not too expensive.

Busy little cafe in an amazing setting. Great and efficient service. Only had a sandwich and a coffee (fish finger sandwich and a ham sandwich) but both were great!

We came in to the Buttery (28/1/24 @ 15:00) it was not busy there were at most ten people in there There were three of us and we ordered tea and cakes. The tea arrived and after 15 mins we wondered where our cakes were. We reminded them, but they had forgotten our order! They eventually bought out our order but even then got it wrong, twice!! One job to do! The tea and cake did taste nice ?

We visited last year, me and my daughter, for a mother's day afternoon tea and it was awful. We had ordered the cake was brought first, on it's own, and not on the afternoon tea stand we were expecting. Eventually after a bit of back and forth, we got the afternoon tea experience but it was a little spoilt. We were given vouchers to return again for free, so did this week. The place is lovely, not wheelchair friendly but that can be forgiven because of the age of the building. The food and service was much better than last time. We ordered the afternoon tea again and extras. Most of it was nice, although the chocolate fudge cake wasn't great- the icing just tasted of butter, not chocolate. It works out quite expensive and isn't my favourite tea room but happier after this visit (I didn't leave a bad review before as I intended to use my vouchers before this week so was hoping for a better experience.)

We visited for cream teas as a birthday celebration. The sandwiches, cakes and scones were delicious with very generous portions. Service was excellent even though the cafe was full. Staff friendly and helpful. Great value too. Would highly recommend. Only slight downside was a few too many dogs. All well behaved but slightly off putting to have all those eyes on you whilst eating. Some being fed from their owner's tables too.

Very small portions and totally overpriced. For example: a very thin toasted sandwich with a side salad that comprised a slice of cucumber, a marble sized tomato and four tiny green leaves for £9. The lemon drizzle cake was the size and shape of a small matchbox but cost £4. The milkshake was good as was the service but we won't be going there again. Every business has to make a living and I'm prepared to pay for good food but not for those standards and prices.

The Buttery at the Crypt was full when we visited today, and we waited a few minutes for a table to become free. The staff were lovely and friendly and had us seated quickly. I opted for a lunch special of Sussex Steak & Ale pie with veg & chips ( mash was an option). My wife chose a 3-egg omelette with cheese and mushrooms. We also ordered a 500ml Long Man beer and a large Pinot white wine. Drinks were served quickly. The slight wait for our meals was more than compensated by the high standard of both meals. This was the best steak pie I've had in years, accompanied by a beautiful rich gravy. We've already recommended the Buttery to friends and we'd definitely eat here again. £33.70 incl. alcohol - which was great value. Thank you.

Very slow and nothing special to wait for. Only half our drinks-only order arrived, and after a further 10 minutes waiting we cancelled the rest, paid and left.

Very nice staff, whole place was clean, tidy and interesting, a nice menu. Food and drink is to a reasonable standard - except for the tiny slice of lemon drizzle cake! The downside is that it's very expensive for what you get.

Food honestly not great but I only had an omelette (too much shell!)I would go back if I fancied something on the special board maybe. It's a fine building with a nice atmosphere and kind waiter staff.

Not really worth the money, kids meal frozen goujons, chips. Standard sandwiches, hot chocolate really nice though. Staff are friendly, really cramped though. My daughter got a bit fussy due to being cramped in bare in mind she's 1 and lots of tuts and funny looks from other customers. Overall
