Town pub with nice outdoor seating areas and decking. Good menu and drink selection. Bit pricy. Would be better with some small plate choices.

Service was ok . We booked table for 1 hour slot food took 45 minutes to get to us. I had steak and chips with onion rings.Onion rings were ok but greasy. Steak was almost cold and very greasy , chips were also almost cold one chip was actually floppy and completely yuck several chips were wet and inedible.Have been looking forward to eating here for a while. Unfortunately from first experience I am definitely not rushing back for food. It wasn't even that busy so no excuse for cold greasy food. Otherwise we have visited many times before but just for drinks. Outside area is great and has a good atmosphere.Shame about the food experience

Probably the best family pub in East Grinstead, friendly staff, sometimes under staffed but that doesn’t prevent good service, just a lot of busy staff. Very accessible and accommodating and can generally get a table without pre-booking which is nice for spontaneous moments. All in all, a really nice pub.

I went to The Ship with my husband for lunch on Boxing Day. As usual, the food was very nice. I enjoyed my roast beef and he enjoyed his fish & chips. The service was as good as it could be on such a busy day, and the staff were friendly and obliging as always. My only suggestion to make it even better would be, why not have a normal-sized dinner plate for a roast meal? My husband's plate was huge, and mine was like a child's size of plate. There was plenty of lovely food so no need to use a small plate to make it look like more. I saw one poor waitress struggling to go out onto the patio while carrying another such small plate with a huge Yorkshire pudding balancing (and wobbling) on top of everything else. The plates used for roast meals were not much more than the size of a teatime plate. So I suggest maybe a dinner-sized (or fish n chips size) plate for main meals with gravy? It will make life easier for your staff, and for customers, it will stop food falling off the edge onto the tables. Those small plates may be trendy, but not practical for a mains. That was my only small criticism, so I'm still giving 5 stars, thanks for a lovely lunch!

A thoroughly enjoyable Christmas meal with excellent colleagues who combined with the ambience for a delightful evening. Meal was good and the efforts to cater for my food allergies (none of which leads to anaphylaxis) were commendable.Dietary restrictions: Milk and Soya managed without any trouble.

Terrific Christmas atmosphere in this town centre pub but the staff were welcoming and friendly despite being very busy. Had a couple of glasses of Shiraz, which was excellent, and not overpriced. Food was excellent: my wife had the vegetarian Cassoulet, which she thoroughly enjoyed, while I had the steak, which was cooked to perfectly medium rare.

The pub is lovely, however the drinks are very expensive. We ordered a single and a double Bombay sapphire gin and two small bottles of fever tree tonic, the price came to just over £21.00, absolutely shocking when you think a whole bottle of same gin is way less and with change to spare. I know ther is no comparison with Wetherspoons, but two doubles of Bombay sapphire with bottles of tonic, came to £7.62 The Ship is a lovely pub is lovely but not three times better!
