Went on New Year’s Day 9 adults and 3 children we ordered - child a fresh orange and was charged £4.50 a can of the make of Barr cola was £2.75 the cans weren’t even put into glasses they just brought the cans to the table , the drinks are an absolute rip off , one adult ordered a butter chicken , when it came he questioned the waiter about it as it looked like a korma , his butter chicken looked nothing like the butter chicken that was served to an Asian lady that was sat on a table next to us , the plates were cold that was put on our table for the curry and when the curry’s came they were only like warm , the dishes they were served in we’re not hot , normally you cannot touch them as usually piping hot , the waiter asked if my curry was ok I told him no it was only luke warm , no offer to exchange it , the garlic naans were hard only luke warm and hardly any garlic on them , our bill came to over £200 and i have to say it was the worst curry any of us have had for a long time , all 9 adults have said we will never go again , which is a shame as it used to be one of our favourite curry’s but none of us will ever return again

What has happened to this place just had possibly one of the worst curries ever and the service was appaling. My disappointment started when the menu i was given is different to the one on line when i asked why they said the one on line was an old one after a brief discussion they did agree to cook the dish i had seen online. We ordered poppadoms and pickle tray but didn't have time to eat them before tge starters arrived which must have been warmed up as there was no way they had been made fresh, the waiter was clearing our plates at the same time our mains arrived. I'd ordered a seafood balti , i usually have chicken balti but fancied a change and o the menu this was down as the best balti ever what a let down i nearly choked on my first mouthful it was that spicy they had to bring me a pot of yogurt to cool it down. The last straw was when they started to clear the table whilst 2 of us were still eating. All in all one of the worst curry experiences ever definatly will not bd returning.

Food okay. Service okay. Stairway, top floor and toilets require a clean and re-decoration. Having been a while since out last visit but won't be heading back - what a huge shame.

Great Food and great service from Jimmy. We had the charsi, which is really tasty. The chicken tikka was also really good

Been tonight for a curry. Can't believe how it has changed. The place is filthy. Cutlery and plates dirty had to ask for these to be changed. The whole place looks scruffy. The waiter was pleasent enough but his clothes were stained and grubby. Ladies toilets were an absolute disgrace. Sorry but won't be returning. Don't waste your money go elsewhere.

Went for a meal with my Partner. When we arrived they said to just wait in the middle and we would be seated shortly. Made our way to the bar but was shocked to be informed they no longer serve alcohol and you can’t take your own. We were sat just by the kitchen door. So was very busy with waiters rushing past. It was freezing from the door being opened all the time. Felt very rushed. Starter was only just warm. Waited half an hour for main dish. In between all this the hoover was brought out and used around us. Then placed behind me, which then fell over and hit my shoulder. They did apologise for this and mistakes happen, but all in all it wasn’t the best experience and unfortunately we wont be returning. This used to be such a brilliant place.

Food and service amazing as always. Always enjoy visiting. Big thank you to Jimmy for making sure everything was perfect and for sorting my husband a birthday cake at the end ?

Fantastic food, fantastic service. Jimmy was great. Very authentic and most tables were full despite it being a Monday evening. Loved it.

So disappointed, what was once an incredible dining experience has turned into a chaotic, fast food cafe vibe. The place was filthy, everything feels cheap, apart from the inflated prices to facilitate the fact they don’t serve alcohol anymore (which isn’t the issue). It’s a shadow of its former self, the food was bang average, it didn’t even feel like a restaurant any more. Such a shame.

Lovely atmosphere, fish masala was amazing but for a very large and popular restaurant your toilets are absolutely disgusting. The toilet doors don't lock, there was obviously a blockage in the first loo that had overflowed and someone had tried to unblock it with the loo brush and just left everything. No out of order on the door so you just walked into that disgusting mess. King of Curries you need to spend a lot of money on a new hygienic toilet block. ? Disgusting.

Please understand that Akbar’s HAS been my go to curry in arguably England’s curry capital. However, tonight’s visit will be our final trip. This has nothing to do with the quality of the food, which was to its usual high standard. It also has no bearing on the service, which I would describe as over-attentive, rushed, and with a sense that they we’re trying to get us off our table to seat the next people in the conveyor-belt way that you come to expect from Akbar’s. Don’t get me wrong, the service is good, it is just rushed as you would expect from the way this restaurant functions. The reason we will not be returning is down to the unannounced recent decision of the owners to become an unlicensed premises. This in itself is absolutely fine, I understand why a Muslim-owned restaurant would choose not to serve alcohol on religious grounds. However, I have been coming to this restaurant for over 20 years, and alcohol has been served freely. The recent change in policy also causes is no offence whatsoever. However, to A) not implement a Bring Your Own policy for those who do enjoy a beer with their curry and B) to then make the decision to increase the price of their menu by up to 50% per item to recuperate the losses is hypocritical, cynical, greedy and foolish given there are ample high quality restaurants that serve great food and allow you to either BYO alcohol or if they have an alcohol-free policy do not charge you extra for their reduction in profit. I’ll be enjoying my curries in the future elsewhere.
