Booked as part of a birthday gift and a weekend away, the main hotel, bar and reception all OK with friendly staff and the unique atmosphere of the wooden log building, which was different. The staff were friendly and helpful, the restaurant which looked over the lake was nice and the food was good both evening meal and breakfast. Where this hotel seriously let's itself down is the rooms. It was like stopping back into the 80s. Mixer tap shower with a curtain, it was hard to stand in due to the roof line. An old brown bathroom suite, cracked and scratched which all needed a good clean, very poor. The room had threadbare carpet and it was really hot, had to fight with the windows to open them. Each time you moved in the bed you could here the springs. The decor needed attention too with marks on the walls. So the room and bathroom was not good at all that we stayed in.

Really like the location. The lodges are very cosy. Food was good too. We had a problem with noisy neighbours (loud music, and left their dog in their room whilst they were out, so the dog was barking when it was alone). We were moved to another room but had a similar problem with kids laughing and shouting into the early hoursThe staff were very helpful and understanding as they happily allowed us to move rooms.Rooms: Small boiler in the lodges for hot water, so be mindful not to have the shower running for too long!

Definitely a disappointing experience. There were 5 of us who had booked an overnight stay deal for a Saturday night. This included a 50 minute treatment each with access to the spa facilities on the Saturday afternoon. There was then a 2 course dinner included in the restaurant on the Saturday night. We had prebooked the treatments as advised and these were booked to take place during the afternoon on the Saturday.A call was received on the Friday, the day before we were due to visit, and we were advised that treatments would have to be moved to the Sunday as they had overbooked, but that we could still access the spa facilities on the Saturday afternoon as planned.Upon arriving at the hotel on the Saturday, we checked in and booked our time for the evening meal.We then went to our rooms to unpack and made our way to the spa where we were advised that as our treatments were not booked until the Sunday, we couldn't access until then. We informed the member of staff what the spa manager (Sarah) had told us during the conversation on Friday. After 35 minutes of backwards and forwards, we were finally allowed access. What we were then greeted with was less than hygienic. The changing rooms were dirty with discarded towels, robes and slippers all over the floor after clearly overflowing from the basket provided. The steam room was out of order, the pool was cold, and the two hot tubs were jam packed with other guests.Needless to say, it was a fleeting visit and we then headed back to our rooms to change for dinner. We headed to the restaurant and were then told that we didn't have a table booked despite us confirming this upon arrival. Again, this took some time to resolve, despite the restaurant being pretty much empty. We were offered a free bottle of Prosecco between the five of us and when I confirmed that one of us was alcohol free, I was offered a soft drink instead. Then, at the end of the meal, the duty manager insisted that the soft drink should be paid for.Overall, what should've been a relaxing overnight stay for my friend's 40th birthday ended up being hugely disappointing. The hotel and lodges are extremely tired-looking, which is a shame as it does actually have the potential to be a beautiful resort.

Great facilities, great scenery, great service, great location. Went for a wedding and it was one of the most memorable weddings yet. Reception area maybe just a little bit small but it makes the gatherings more intimate too. Overall I have to give it a rare 5 stars.Walkability: You need transport to get here. In the middle of nowhere. Nice and secludedFood & drinks: Great, friendly serviceNoteworthy details: The river and nature and scenery outside really stands out and makes for great photos

An extremely run down hotel. Room required a good clean cobwebs in bathroom. Lakeside view with patio doors good but unable to have ventilation over night. No air con. On the up side staff very helpful. Three lights required replacing and was attended to without problem. Three star hotel charging four star prices.Food & drinks: Breakfast reasonable value staff great

Fantastic location, disappointing hotel - room size varies extremely - some you can't swing a cat in, others are very spacious. We had 8 rooms for a wedding party and saw very big differences. The pictures on the site don't reflect the run down rooms our family were allocated. They all need a lot of TLC. Absolute sham that they make you pay extra for the swimming pool - I don't think you can say you are a country park hotel and spa if the pool is extra. Gym hours are also very limited and the breakfast not worth the additional charge.

We didn't stay at the hotel but had a spa afternoon there. The spa treatment was great, felt refreshed after. The staff were friendly and helpful. The facilities and surroundings are tired, in need of repair/tlc and more importantly a good clean.

Love Chevin hall always stay before a flight. But sadly it has gone downhill a bit, net curtain in room had mould on it and it did smell damp when we entered. Forks left on floor in corridor outside our room. It really needs some tlc it’s a shame because this place could be amazing. The pool steam room and jacuzzi were great.

Stayed for one evening on the Chevin Nights package for our wedding anniversary. Woodland lodge a tad tired and could do with a little updating. All staff very pleasant and chatty. As with other reviews no internet connection apart from in public areas - ok in theory however there are times you do need access to internet connection when away from home. Some aspects of professionalism could do with a bit of attention - lady on reception sat chewing gum and looking at her phone whilst guests sat having a drink, drinks menus cleared from tables around us during evening meal (8pm ish) before we had finished and plate removed from our breakfast table before we had finished eating. Ordered a cocktail - slightly disappointed for a £10 price tag, looked like it had just been emptied from packaging into glass ! Used pool and spa facilities, again all areas tired and needs updating but staff very pleasant and chatty.

We stayed over for a friends hen do and had the loveliest time, the spa was amazing, the food was lovely, and the room was comfortable. Would definitely visit again. We also had afternoon tea which was lovely and the staff were very nice.

Unfortunately left a much loved jumper behind and unable to return to fetch it. Hotel unwilling to post it on despite offering to pay postage and told we had to arrange a courier to go and get it. Absolutely ruined our stay

This was probably the worst spa experience that I have had anywhere in the world. The women's changing area was tiny, poorly equipped, and filthy. Despite this, there were lots of women booked on the same day, all squishing into the tiny space, where no where to change or place one's clothes while changing except for the small lockers. I've been to school changing rooms better than this. The spa area was not well maintained. People were walking between the indoor and outdoor area because it was a nice day, so they were bringing dirt in from the wet ground in front of the pool door. No one was cleaning this area regularly. Somehow, someone managed to bring glass cups into the jacuzzi area. These were left at the side of the jacuzzi and not removed by the non-existent-as-far-as-I-could tell cleaning staff. The result was that someone else broke the glass and the jacuzzi had to be shut down for a while to make it safe again. We had a full half day there, from 1-6pm. My husband and I had both booked a massage from 5-6pm. At 5pm, a lady came to tell us that she was the only masseuse available that day because the other one had called in sick. I don't understand how no one thought to inform us in all the time we were at the spa that this would be the case. My husband did get a full refund for his spa day. My massage involved very little pressure. It was more like a skin rub. I had asked the masseuse to apply pressure but it appeared that that was all the pressure she was able to apply. I cannot recall coming out of a spa experience so incredibly disappointed as I did yesterday. Having said this, the staff that were in attendance were courteous. They simply appeared to be totally understaffed for the number of people they booked. And the place is not maintained at all. It's a horrible shame, as the location itself is lovely. The lunch that was included in our spa package was nice. So no complaints about the food.

I booked this stay and was looking forward to a break. In arrival I checked in and was told meals were included in the price fron the set menu consisting of 2 courses any drinks nd side incurred an additional charge. This was also reiterated by the restaurant staff at ever meal. As I was sight seeing I only had an evening meal and did not incur any charges. I did not use the spa facilities. The room key needed to be reprogrammed every time I left the room which was quite irksome. This could be more than once or twice a day. The room itself was nice spacious and clean. The walls were quite thin as the people next door woke me up quite early every morning. The night before I checked out I specifically went to reception to discuss checkout as I thought I’d leave early. The nan who booked me in and took payment in full was the same person I spoke to. I left under the impression that all was well. I was shocked to find that 2 days after I’d left the hotel took money out of my account without my knowledge or consent. I phoned and had to leave them a voicemail, they did not reply. I emailed and i eventually received a reply saying accounts would be in touch to discuss the matter. Another week passed and no one called so I emailed again. When u got no reply I then raised a complaint with my bank a few hours after I’d made the complaint I received a reply. When I challenged the response they then said I should have paid for the meals and they took the money without telling me. If that were the case and the hotel had made a mistake why wasn’t I told when I checked in or when I discussed checking out? Businesses cannot take money out of a persons bank account without their consent the bank told me that. So if I were you pay cash not card just in case. I will be taking this further and will support proceedings against the hotel out of principal.

Came and stayed for a couple of nights relaxing break as a surprise treat for my birthday with my partner, and couldn’t have been more impressed. We stayed in one of the cabins which had everything we needed and was perfectly clean and cosy. We ate in the restaurant one night where the food was spectacular, and really not badly priced at all. We also had an afternoon in the spa which again was lovely. Every member of staff we have encountered couldn’t have done enough for us and could y have been more polite and friendly. Only small negative was that on an evening when we were back at the cabin and wanting to watch tv there was very little signal so it wasn’t easy - but at the same time we were in the middle of the woods!
