Me and three of my old school friends visited Corarima for the first time last night. I wasn’t sure what to expect as the restaurant markets itself as “Abyssinian, vegan, gluten free food.” We were given the warmest and friendliest of welcomes by the owner who was obviously very proud of his heritage and culture and was happy to advise us about food and share background in a very knowledgable and interesting way. Now…the food…oh my! This is without a doubt one of the best meals I have ever eaten! I do not follow a vegetarian or vegan diet (I am also not coeliac but try to avoid gluten as it does not always agree with me). The food was absolutely superb, there is only one cook (the owner’s wife) we were unsure what to try and so were advised the sharing platter for main course, we were also told we could have a sharing platter of starters too, so we did. Everything was simply wonderful, I will without a doubt be returning to share this jewel of a restaurant with my husband. Thank you to the Corarima team for such a wonderful evening.

My wife and I had dinner at Coraima this evening whilst staying in Wakefield and what a delightful restaurant it is. The simple and authentically decor provides an instant relaxed atmosphere. We started with drinks. I had a Telba (a cold drink made with ground flax seeds) and my wife had a Beso (a cold, slightly sweet roasted barley drink). Both were delicious. For starters we shared a Beetroot Salad. It was very fresh with a delicately flavoured vinegar type dressing. As neither of us had had Abyssinian cuisine before, we decided to go for the 'Combination dish for two' to give us an overall taster of their menu. A large round slate plate arrived with nine perfectly neat individual dishes sat on an injera (a slightly sour flat bread made from teff flour) with a further six neatly rolled injeras and four small chickpea flat breads. Every dish was very well spiced and made with care. Delightful and moreish. By the time we had eaten the whole plate we were nicely full but it did not feel heavy. We rounded the evening with hot drinks of a Shay (a North African spiced tea) and an Abyssinian coffee. The coffee is not cheep at £9.95, however, this is by far the best coffee I've ever tasted and a must for any coffee lover. We were informed that they roast the beans with spices in-house. Another sign of their dedication to present an authentic experience delivered with passion. Thoroughly recommended. Some additional information: 1. The restaurant is vegetarian and gluten free. 2. We had to pay a £20 no-show deposit when making the online table booking the day before, although, this has become, understandably, quite common for independent restaurants.

Exploring the outskirts of Leeds led me to discover the gem that is Corarima, a gluten-free, vegan haven in Wakefield. As someone currently navigating a gluten-free journey, stumbling upon this Abyssinian vegan/gluten free restaurant was a true delight. Opting for the combination platter for two was a journey through a sensory layer cake - a symphony of tastes and smells expertly presented. We embraced the experience, relishing the deliciousness with our hands, a practice met with the owner's delighted approval. The host, a charming and attentive soul, took us on a culinary tour, passionately detailing each dish. He was so warm, Friendly and attentive - without being over-bearing. The decor added to the warmth, creating a homely ambiance that made this dining experience extraordinary. In the realm of UK dining, Corarima has secured its spot among our favorites. It's more than a restaurant; it's a rare and complete experience, a testament to the charm and authenticity of Abyssinian cuisine. I wish we lived closer as we’d visit regularly for sure!

We visited as a couple with our baby. They could not have been more welcoming, very friendly and helpful service, and the food was really tasty. Even the baby enjoyed bread and yellow lentils!

What a lovely little place. Even though I'm not a vegetarian, i didn't feel like I missed eating meat. The quality of the food was great and the owners are lovely and can't do enough to make your visit a good one! Highly recommend if you fancy a culturally different experience ?

1st time, beautiful restaurant, attentive staff, the food was new to me but it was good, spicy but not hot, had the sharing platter which fools you, thought it wouldn't be enough but it was ample for 2. Great place would recommend. Vegan friendly, I'm not vegan but couldn't fault what I had.

A relaxed and friendly atmosphere welcomed us. The host was charming and explained the menu and different elements which was great as this was a new cuisine for both of us. We decided to share 2 starters both delicious and very tasty. We had a combination main course for 2 which gave a great overview of flavours and textures. The family ethos of the restaurant shines through. My coffee loving other half also really enjoyed the coffee that finished off the meal. Thank you for a real treat of a meal.

Super experience! Not only the food is amazing, the service is outstanding and the place is just lovely. We really enjoyed our meal. Everything was super tasty and healthy, lots of vegetables and legumes. And of course, lots of their special bread. We even tried some of the cold drinks and they were really good, something like oat milk, but tastier. We will come back very soon, what an amazing place!

My birthday treat. My wife and I are not vegan or 'gluten free' but are happy to try different cuisines/lifestyles. We decided to have the combination meal for four as none of us had tried this cuisine before and this gives you a selection of dishes to try. Fantastic welcome and nothing was too much trouble. The gentleman who served us was very attentive and took the time to tell us about what we were about to eat and also about some of the culture behind it. Having vegans with us added I think to to an excellent evening. We are not surprised to see this ranked number 1 in Wakefield. It really was treat!

Great experience , service was amazing (sorry forgot the guys name) but you could see he is genuinely interested in providing guests with quality food and also a enjoyable experience from start to end. The explanation of the food and the little chats were appreciated. Also whilst the price of the traditional smoothies may see high , it’s a bottle with enough to go round 2-3 people and it’s really worth it. Anyway definately a place to try

If I could give six stars for service, I would. Such a warm and genuine welcome. The food is absolutely sublime. we had the Combination Platter for Two which had lots of different tastes and all of it was delicious. Finished off with a fantastic Abbysinian coffee and popcorn. Can't recommend this place enough.Wheelchair accessibility: There is a step to the restaurant but the owner will bring out a ramp. There is a large wheelchair accessible toilet.

Really good food. Loved the bread and the coffee the most. Shared a platter for two, very interesting flavour profiles. Will be back.

The food is absolutely delicious. Every element seems to have been considered thoughtfully and created with love; this is true from the ingredients, to the final dishes, to the warm and honest welcome in to what is so clearly a family community with cooking and food at their core. There is a sense of ease and comfort here which makes having dinner at Corarima feel very special.
