My wife and I decided to celebrate with afternoon tea at the Red Lion. It was a blazing hot Sunday in late June, but we were very thoughtfully guided to a beautiful spot in the shade just at the edge of the courtyard.Our waitress, Angel, was absolutely excellent. It's hard to know where to start but the owners and staff are a good place to start. Extremely friendly and personable, attentive without being overbearing and they make you feel comfortable immediately. The room was small, clean and the bed very comfortable with a lovely view of the countryside. The pub was extremely comfortable and welcoming and within minutes it felt like a place I would be at a couple nights a week if I lived locally. I was traveling from the USA and ended up with car trouble. It was 9pm at night and the lovely woman I spoke with at the front desk was able to find me a room. Although this is part of a chain now, the hotel is delightful and historic with a lovely courtyard. The room was spacious and comfortable. The bathroom and bathtub were extremely clean with plenty of hot water. The breakfast was a good full breakfast and they provided gluten free bread upon request.
