A fantastic pint, ? cheers!

Superb proper pub. So many pubs in affluent and pretty Cotswold villages are essentially expensive restaurants, but this one is the real thing. Excellent cask ales, friendly locals and a warm welcome. Highly recommended.

The real deal. I love bringing visitors here, a proper community pub with a buzzing atmosphere and an ever changing selection of fantastic ales and ciders.

Chancing an earlier train, I was unceremoniously ejected by the GWR nazis. I found myself in a damp and miserable Charlbury. Seeking shelter but not sustenance, I stuck my nose in several of the town’s disappointingly tasteful pubs. All were restaurants, no environment for a lone ranger. Finally I found myself in the Rose and Crown: a perfectly unpretentious boozer. I consoled myself with a pint of Titanic Plum Porter and was sad to make my way back to the station to catch my booked train. I think of that day often.
