I went to this GK pub a while ago and was disgusted by the way the owner treats his staff, I believe his name is Nigel. He openly talks down to them, lashes out and shouts at them in front of customers, I was in utter shock at the fact this man is the owner and I am in no way surprised that the location is in the state that it is. I believe the employees are too afraid to report him as I have friends who have been to the same location and share the same views as me in regards to the owner. I seriously hope something is done about him because I can’t imagine being spoken to like that in my place of work.

Gone down hill.

Had a £9 steak expecting it to be tiny fortunately it was not and there was not a bit of fat and gristle, the accompanying salad was also fresh and tasty. Would definitely visit again.

Was part of a large booking for a celebration and to say it was poorly managed is a major understatement. Some people arrived a bit sooner but a large group of us, including the two who made the booking arrived a little bit later and we'd barely had a chance to take our coats off and sit down before food started being brought out (when complained we were told they had asked if everyone was here and ready which was a complete lie). It then took nearly an hour to bring all the meals out; someone actually timed it from first to last plate and it was 50 minutes. There was also no structure to it; they'd bring out one or two plates and one table would get one and then another table (reserved section is lots of tables close together). It was about 5-10 minutes on average per plates coming out; to put in perspective my partner received his meal fairly early on, our child received his about 15 minutes later, and mine was one of the last ones out and it was very similar for most of the tables. Essentially had to decide if was going to start eating when nobody else at the table had food or wait for everyone to have their meal and theirs be stone cold (not to mention had to wait a while for forks and salt). By the time mine came out my partner sent his back because it had gone cold and was a quality issue (our child tried his best to eat his but said it tasted gross and left most of it) and by the time it came back out we realised there was a quality issue with mine and we honestly just called it. The gentleman who had originally been bringing out the food had been very rude; was sighing and rolling his eyes when walking away and as soon as people started complaining about food quality and service he sent someone else out to deal with it all despite telling us he's the manager. The only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because the person he sent out afterwards did try her best to rectify the problems by redoing food and refunding uneaten meals (only credit to the pile of problems and was brought over from another pub). I believe the only person to not get his uneaten meal refunded was my partner as they had redone it and he 'chose' not to eat it; he wasn't going to sit and eat his meal when myself and our child were sitting there hungry. At the end of the day, a large amount of people there didn't end up eating including the birthday boy. Was celebrating his birthday AND his sons christening and basically from walking through the door was a major let down

The Hunters chips were pretty decent for only 3quid and all the draught lagers are pretty good here to, you can order two pinters to your table which is particularly helpful during busy periods or when live sport is playing. Only criticism of the place is the toilets could do with a bit of investment as they are a bit tired and worn but other than that generally the messenger is a competitively priced local boozer and a good place to which sports with your friends, wouldn't really recommend bringing kids here personally but lots of people do, that's down to individual preferences.

Getting fed up with this no steak on the menu last night, 08/01/24, same as 2 weeks ago. Will be taking my business elsewhere. Oh and by the way still infested by small flies which suggests unclean

Such a lovely pub, perfect staff. We used to go to the Merlin on match days, but had a few unwelcoming experiences. We have found our new pre match eats and drinks venue! Great staff, lovely food, all round excellence

I'd like to praise the staff here- it must often be a thankless task serving large groups of people when the pre-ordering becomes confused and participants can't remember what they were having.... today, in such a group, everyone serving kept a smile, tried hard to sort out mistakes not of their making, and did their best to ensure we enjoyed our Christmas lunch on the nicely set table. Thank you.
