Wonderful little pub, amazing food - the a la carte menu was exceptional value for money & friendly accommodating staff to squeeze a late booking in. Great selection of local beers and ales at a great price!100% will pop in again when visiting home to see family.Vegetarian options: Soup, risotto and othersParking: Adjacent to pub

Only had the soup for lunch, but it was delicious. Staff were super friendly as were locals who told us Aussie visitors about the things to see and do in the area. Will be back for dinner this week for sure!

After a blustery, cold and very wet Sunday drive over Bodmin Moor it was such a delight to stumble across the Rising Sun Inn. We were given a warm welcome and settled in to the bar for Sunday Roast ... and what a lunch! Stunning quality beef that melted in the mouth with a lovely selection of seasonal veg. Sticky toffee pudding was light and rich with a creamy vanilla ice cream - delightful. The locally brewed stout beer was another surprise too! All in all a real gem of a pub - looking forward to returning soon!

Our experience did not compare at all with other reviews. The food was very expensive.£22 for Pie and Mash and £18 for Burger and Chips. The latter I found quite unpleasant. Service was mediocre. This place has gone way downhill in my view, we will not bother again. To Rising Sun.Thank you for your prompt response. You seem to suggest that I don't know good quality food when I'm served it. I'm not impressed by your attitude and stand by all I have written. One thing for sure, Gingsters need not fear you as competitors. I note you don't address your "mediocre service".

Went there for dinner on a Thursday night. Atmosphere was great, pub quiz on. The food was really great for a pub at reasonable prices and would thoroughly recommend. Service was great also.

This is a hidden gem off the beaten track in North Cornwall for those in the know. And deservedly its reputation for fine food is growing quite a fan club. Excellent food and a friendly informed service from Conrad and the team. We wish them great success but not so much that we can’t get a table !!

We went for an early dinner just after the New Year to take advantage of the special offer menu. It was very quiet in the pub when we arrived but within half an hour the bar was busy. We went through to the dining room and were sat with one other couple in the entire place (a second couple arrived about half an hour later). Despite this, the service was fairly poor. Both us and our neighbours had to retreat to the bar to get drinks with our meals and to pay before we left. I don’t expect that when I am in the restaurant and particularly not when the waiting staff are on the customer side of the bar chatting with friends. Once could be excused but each time we went through to the bar, is poor. That said, the food was a mix. The soup and rarebit was absolutely delicious. Really hearty and flavoursome. The whitebait and mayo was equally tasty and filling. The fish pie main was bland. It had no flavour at all. The lamb dish was nicely presented but just was too heavily flavoured with an aniseed taste. The lamb itself looked good but was tough and somewhat sinewy. The mash potatoes was good but nothing compared to the starter. Had we paid anything other than the very reasonable special rate we would not have paid for all the dishes. As it was, it was ok at the price. I would rather they charge more but produce better. Train the wait staff. There should be no reason for a diner (when there are only four) to have to leave their table in the restaurant to order drinks at the bar and then have the next course delivered whilst they are still at the bar ordering drinks. The wait staff should also check back once food is served, they didn’t. EDIT - I have just learned on facebook that the waiter we had (chatting to his friends whilst we needed service) was no other than 'Dylan our amazing assistant manager'. I am speechless. It is the first time we have never tipped for service.

Well, What a fantastic culinary evening we had! "Curry Night at The Rising Sun Inn Altarnun" It started when we arrived and were warmly greeted by Dylan, The Bar Manager. We were then led through to the Dining room and our drinks were brought through. The course started with Lamb Coftas Samosas and an absolutely delicious, Scotch Egg with an Onion Baggi Coating, all served with a mint Yogurt and Hot Chilli Jam. This was then followed by a Lamb jalfrazi, Butter Chicken and a Fish curry, Naan Breads & Poppadoms. Dessert was a home made Rice Pudding, Mango Sorbet and a Pineapple Pannacota. The prices at £35 a head was an absolute steal. "Tim", The owner and Head Chef, excelled in every dish. "Conrad", Front of House and General Manager attended to our every need. "Sebastian" our Waiter and "Bailey"on the Bar, made our evening, with their helpful ways and smiley faces and making sure we were never kept waiting. Overall, the ambience, quality of food, service and the price, left us with very satisfied minds and bellies. We will certainly be back, and highly recommend this quality establishment to one and all. Thank You to everyone involved.

What a fantastic meal we had at the Rising Sun. I didn't want it to end. I had lamb croquettes to start with which melted on the tongue and delivered a stunning mix of flavours. Followed by a colourful and heavenly bowl of ravioli which was again a heavenly mix of flavours. Very well done to the lone chef on duty last night. We will definitely be returning. I had one of the best meals of my life. Thank you.
