Had Sunday lunch at the Shepherd's Inn as part of 70th birthday celebrations. A great choice. The decor was welcoming and stylish. The food was delicious, the portions generous, and Mike catered for vegan and gluten-free members of our party. It was lovely to meet him and have a quick chat when he emerged from the kitchen to make sure everything was okay. Recommended.

Spur of the moment decision to travel cross country from NW to NE prompted us to become reacquainted with this pub which we hadn't visited for many years when the landlord (Martin from memory) served up the best pint of Marston's Pedigree backed up by a superb food menu. The Shepherd's Inn at Melmerby is a great find, nestled at the foot of the Pennines on the A686 road. Very nice interiors, cosy and friendly. There was a mix of locals and tourists which made for a nice atmosphere. The food was beautifully cooked, just delicious. Extensive menu with specials also, and seasonal with it - the Autumn Plate dessert trio was inspired. A really lovely place for a night out with great food and service, would recommend.
