Our second visit to Heft and we were even more impressed than our first visit! We had a pub lunch and all of us really enjoyed our meals. I had the pie of the day which was creamy wild mushrooms with ramson, the pie was fantastic and the gravy was undescribably tasty. My only complaint was I couldn't get all the gravy without a spoon.

Our second visit for lunch. Superb food, friendly knowledgeable service (and great value). Well deserving of a star. As it’s a set lunch, the courses come out at fairly much the same time for the whole restaurant and it was funny hearing everyone going quiet then scraping their plates clean in unison. Everything was absolutely delicious and we all loved the atmosphere too. It also really helps when the service is as good as this. Personally I really couldn’t fault it and I’m sure we’ll be going back soon.

Hugely enjoyable gourmet dining experience, staff were excellent and the food superb. Will definitely be coming back!Parking: This is a rural location and you are parking on the surrounding roads along with other patrons and local residents.

This Michelin star restaurant in the Lake District has a wonderful 12 course taster menu which showcases the culinary skills of its owners using locally sourced fresh produce. Can get a tad bit noisy when full.

We visited Heft for a birthday treat in January. First off, service was top notch. Super attentive, warm and knowledgeable. Each dish was so different with hundreds of components that they have to learn and deliver which they did brilliantly. The food itself is clearly distinctive. They talk about foraging and how they interact with the environment and there were so many dishes that supported that. Our favourite was when 'daisy met bramble' and also the pine dish. Who eats daisies and makes them taste incredible?! The building itself is a traditional country pub. It felt cosy and comfortable but strangely everything was totally white with next to nothing on the walls. Even the original beams had been painted white. Took away the original character a bit but food and service were what we were there for and both were excellent. My only gripe was the advertised price. We got the bill and the originally advertised price wasn't inclusive of VAT!!! I've eaten out all over the place and never seen that before. It felt a bit underhand and was a slight niggles. It added £40 onto an already 'hefty' bill. We didn't need to remortgage but it just didn't feel right. Would we return? Yes absolutely

Wow…. What can I say other than amazing. My Husband and I visited and both had the set sample menu with the wine pairing. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience, staff were very informative and knowledgeable about each course and wine pairing. They couldn’t do enough for you and felt very relaxed, unlike other restaurants we have tried. We will definitely be returning when we next visit the lakes, keep up the good work team Heft.

We visited Heft on a Saturday lunchtime as a family of 4. It’s a set menu and keenly priced, but everything was superb and up to the standard you’d hope for. Delicious food in a modern British style. The decor is very pleasant - a sort of Scandi style pub but still warm and inviting. Very pleasant servers and had a bit of a laugh with the sommelier about our imaginative descriptions of the wine! Enjoyable all round and will have to go back in the evening for the tasting menu. Having said that, we went there on our way to the Lakes and a lunch was the perfect stop off and start to the holiday.

Have only eaten here on a Wednesday evening, when Heft is offering one of it's more laid back menus. Have never been disappointed and I love their draught cider. It helps that I can walk there from home.

Suday lunch is brilliant. Generous portions, high quality ingredients and great flavours.

We were alerted to Heft by a friend who is local. We came for lunch (on our way through to Glasgow to visit family), so were there for the lunch menu, which - bear this in mind - would only offer a glimpse of their abilities. Suffice to say, we have already made a note to get back for the full-on dinner experience (including the wine pairings - as I was driving, I can only attest to the - great - quality of their tab water). This is one of these places in the new-ish (and welcome) tradition where a sense of place, local sourcing, authenticity of heritage and sustainability (of the produce and the communities) is paired with refined cooking. And Heft does deliver rather beautifully on this! Also of note is the place itself: it is an old village pub (lovingly restored) and the front is, I believe, still a pub, with the dining room at the back. It maintains a refined but (phew!) unpretentious and relaxed atmosphere.(no photos; we were too busy enjoying our food, ourselves and our chats)

Absolutely brilliant: food was superb, staff attentive but not overly so (Dan in particular, wry and funny, very knowledgeable). Real attention to detail, slick in a good way and can’t wait to go back.

Sunday service is truly an amazing experience. The beef is exceptional. Served with a choice of sides which are a joy in themselves. Friendly and welcoming. Real fires and a warm atmosphere. Will definitely return.

If I could give this restaurant 10 stars I would. We had the ten course tasting menu which at £110 ahead is incredible value. Each course looked beautiful and tasted wonderful: clean, complex, balanced tastes that developed in the mouth after each course. Onion, onion, onion, mint. It's not a haiku on the page but it is when it's in your mouth. Courses built up to the venison dish star of the show. We had two of the cheapest wines on the menu and they were wonderful, too. Daniel and Alice looked after us with enormous style. Great night and the best meal we've ever had. Very very very talented people who deserve every success
