Made a special trip over this afternoon. Google and the pub website said it was open. The door seemed firmly shut.Went elsewhere.Replying to the business reply:We arrived about 3.45pm, no signs of life from the outside and the door was definitely shut. We have been to the pub many many times over the years so we know where the door to get in is. If the business was open it certainly didn't look like it from the outside. If the door is shut to keep the warmth in, put a sign up saying we are open please come in. Very off putting when nothing is up outside and a fully shut door with a doorbell, looked more like a house than a pub. We know the pub has been shut within the last few years so thought it had shut again.

Had an exceptional stay at the Hare & Hounds Inn. The attentiveness to detail and going that extra mile for guests was apparent throughout our stay. Food was excellent with a good range of choice. Breakfast amazing. Beds super comfortable and the rooms spacious. Views beautiful and relaxing. We left longing to return, we will definitely be back.

Been here for a meal a few times now.First of all it's a nice location, nice outdoor area and a garden at the back. The hostess and waitress that served us were really nice. Efficient and professional. We've tried.Halloumi starter. The cheese was nice and a nice salad with it. They add what seems like a curried sesame seed and peanut sprinkle over the top which adds to the saltiness which my partner wasn't a fan of but I quite liked it. There's only a tiny amount so don't let it put you off.The fish bonbons starter was lovely. Two round fishcakes. Well seasoned and with nice chunks of, I think, salmon. The mayo added with it is very nice with it too.Last time I tried the pork belly bao buns. Nice steamed buns with lovely tender pork in them. Very tasty but didn't see it on the menu this time. This time we had steak. Rib eye. We both asked for medium rare. Mine was definitely more rare than my partner's but I didn't mind. Someay mins though as it was quite rare. The meat itself was mostly good. Slight areas of tough meat in it but with rib eye there are always fatty bit so this may have been why. The garlic butter sauce they offer with it doesn't have enough garlic in it. We swapped the chunky chips for skinny fries. Could've done with double the amount though really.Pudding. We had the jam roly poly and the sticky toffee.Roly poly was nice. Comes with creme anglais (light custard) and a pot of fruity jam. Heavy after a good meal but that's the nature of the dish. The sticky toffee with very very nice. Plenty of toffee sauce and some vanilla ice cream. I used some of the jam from the roly poly which made it even better. We were very full afterwards and we have good appetites. All in all would recommend this place. Bit of a drive from Kendal but well worth the trip.

My husband and I had an amazing stay at the Hare & Hounds. The bedroom was lovely and well designed, and the bathroom was very large with a stunning claw foot bathtub. We ate almost every meal in the pub and the food was exceptional. Delicious dinners by the fire and the breakfast spread was over the top, with a selection of everything you could want. Service throughout our stay was faultless and cheerful. We were very well catered to! The Hare & Hounds is both stylish and comfortable... we'll certainly be returning.

We had a beautiful night here over Christmas. The whole atmosphere is gorgeous - the perfect country pub.The room was stunning, with great cosy decor and an inviting stand alone bath, plus the body wash in the room smelled delicious. There were treats and a ball left out for our dog too, he was very pleased. The food was top notch, we had the steak pie and the fish and chips followed by a cheese board and the chocolate and raspberry tart. All were perfect. The staff were just lovely and we had a great chat with a waitress who was making us laugh with her love for mushy peas. The location is stunning too, surrounded by country side and great walks.Couldn’t recommend more.

Lovely family meal today. We had our own separate 'snug' which was so cosy. Food was amazing. And the pub itself has a lovely atmosphere. I can't wait to go back and hopefully stay. The staff were lovely

We came for lunch on Christmas eve. The food was excellent. The welcome was extremely friendly and service throughout was good. The wine list is compact but it's a well judged selection.
