Beautiful hotel. Stunning remote location with some great trails into a rugged part of the Lake District nearby. Service was great and friendly. The food is exceptional.Rooms: We stayed in a balcony suite with a view of the reservoir and loved it. Decor was charming and the room was clean. I only subtract a star for using carpet in the bedroom area. I loathe carpet everywhere, especially in hotels.Nearby activities: If you continue down the road by car you reach a car park, which is the start of some beautiful trails.Food & drinks: The food is top quality by any standard. We loved every meal.

Rooms: Shabby and dirtyFood & drinks: Food sounded good, apart from beetroot starter mains and dessert awful

We spent two nights at the Haweswater hotel in Feb 2024. The location is superb for peace & quiet / a recharge. The staff were very attentive and genuinely friendly. The art deco interior gives the hotel a unique feel. The rooms are comfortable and warm, with fantastic views (if facing the reservoir).Overall a lovely stay - thank you. Whilst our overall impression / experience was very positive, I did feel the room rate was more than I felt was justified and would thus on balance not hurry back. We paid for a two bedroom suite (the Dun Bull) but had to pay a £25/night surcharge to have our son use the second bedroom. There was no kids menu (some smaller options were verbally offered after asking) which felt somewhat unwelcoming given printing a simple menu would be an easy thing to do.

I had the pleasure of staying a night and also experiencing Mr Mark's food. The service was amazing. The lady that booked us in was also our waitress at dinner and she was amazing. I forgot her name, but she was so nice to everyone. The room was quirky and had a brilliant art deco feel with an old Bakelite phone and everything. The food was outstanding. It looks expensive but it is well worth it. Well done Mr Mark, you did us proud.Go and try it... It's the closest you'll get to being in peace and quiet in the lakes.I'd love to go again....I can even fix your TVs if you'd like x

This is a wonderful hotel. We were warmly greatest by Nick upon arrival. The room was beautiful with a fantastic view over the reservoir. The food in the restaurant was fine dining heaven, with Nick eloquently describing each dish. Such a lovely hotel, in a beautiful part of the world. Would recommend and will definitely be

We have been visiting the Haweswater for many years and have stayed in lots of the rooms. We love the peace and tranquility of the hotel and its location. A true escape for my wife and I. We really do love the setting and the walking country around it.However. We have just returned from our most recent stay, I had specifically booked the suite “Lakeside “. Upon check in and going to our room we had been given keys to “High Street” which is a lovely suite- but we have stayed in this room before, we were told that as high street doesn’t allow dogs we had had to be switched from the room booked as the other room was set aside for a booking with a dog as this room allows dogs.we were A little disappointed about this as we are trying different rooms each time we visit. We knew that the restaurant had been taken over by Mark Greenway as a fine dining experience. Do we were interested to see what the food was like.We have always had excellent food on previous visits but this was the first time with the new restaurant.Upon arrival at the restaurant we were greeted by staff who took us to the lounge to view the menu and drinks menu prior to our meal as they weren’t quite ready for us. We sat down and had a look at the drinks menu to start with. We were shocked! The wine prices were extortionate! A bottle of Sauvignon Blanc “Cloudy Bay” £96.00!! Bearing in mind the price of this wine in Sainsbury’s is £24.00. We would have been happy even at the £35-£40 mark for this but £96.00!We then sat down in the restaurant having chosen our main courses ( there wasn’t anything on the starters that was tempting to be honest) main courses are in the range of £33-£36. The food arrived and all I can say is, if you are hungry after a day out on the fells good luck. Because the size of portions are minuscule! We were offered the desert menu. However £15 for a desert I feel is robbery and only two options plus a cheese offering was disappointing. We were so underwhelmed and disappointed. We have had some beautiful food at the hotel restaurant in previous years and the prices were high but very acceptable. But this new setup takes it to another level and not in a good way.Taking advantage of a captive audience seems apt.We ate at the newly reopened Mardale Inn at Bampton on our second night. And what a lovely meal we had there at very acceptable prices. In essence we will I’m sure return as we have done before many times. But we will not be eating in the Hotel restaurant. We will eat at the Mardale inn.

Delightful stay in a very special location.

Despite the idyllic location it seemed hard work staying at the hotel. Our bedroom and sitting rooms were cold and draughty despite the radiators pumping out heat. There was a severe condensation problem in the bathroom with dripping taps and constantly running cistern. Food, especially the French onion soup and chocolate box, was very good.

Stunning views from this beautiful art deco hotel, super dog friendly and all the staff were very helpful. Personally would have liked to see more distinction in the brasserie menu in terms of something less fine dining but that’s a small quibble. Would recommend for 1 or 2 nights make sure you take time to explore Haweswater lake which is stunning
