I've drove passed this chippy for years and years and not once thought about trying it out until 1 time I was passing and I could smell the aroma of fish and chips. Parked up and walked back and had Fish and Chips and Mushy peas. I've never had such a nice fish and chips anywhere else. These were the best I've had and totally enjoyed them. Staff were very friendly. Food was amazing. Priced just right for me and my tight wallet. I'll be trying these fish and chips out more often from now on. Thank you.

We are in Whitehaven for a 6 day break. Did a quick search for a decent chippy & the cottage chippy came up. Found it easily on the sat nav, parking is limited but there is a little side street beside it & we also found out you can park on the pavement at either side of the road. We had 2 medium fish & chips & a smoked sausage. All cooked perfectly & tasted superb. Lovely , friendly staff, excellent all round experience. Will definitely pop back before we leave. 100% recommended.

My only gripe is you can't pay on card, that's fine as luckily I had some cash as we were up for a family wedding, never been to the area before. Proper traditional chipshop in a front room style lil cottage. Amazing value for money and its not fish n chips, it's whale sized fish. We had two large fish n chips and two large sauces. £18. So cheap and the fish was delicious and so fresh. Lovely.

Proper old-fashioned chippy serving excellent food.

The fish is of a good portion size, usually cooked to order and the price is fair. Unfortunately, the large chips I ordered on the last 3 occasions were only a handful in size, greasy and soggy. Not only that, the jumbo sausages look as though they've been hanging around a bit and also tasted greasy.Sadly, the last time I visited I was served by an incredibly rude older lady whose manners were certainly lacking - shame really. So, all in all, I honestly don't understand why people bother to queue up there and parking is a nightmare. Needless-to-say I won't be going back again.

The fish is pretty much cooked to order and of a good portion size and that's about it. I have been there a few times now and each time I have become increasingly disappointed to the level that I'm not going back again. If you like jumbo sausages like me beware they have probably been hanging around for a bit. Additionally, the chip portions seem to have got smaller and smaller to the extent that my large chips this evening was barely a handful - stodgy and really greasy. The fish batter is really greasy too. I also found a older female member of staff to be quite rude. Never again I'm afraid, there are plenty of other options out there with a smile.
