Lives up to its name. A lovely country house, close to Ambleside and only a couple of hundred metres away from lake Windermere.The building is beautiful, and the service is top notch. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We stayed for the Gala New Years disco and it was an absolute blast.The room was a little small, with dated decor and a lack of storage. But you go to the Lakes to be exploring the Lakes, so this wasn't a problem.

We cannot thank Merewood Country House Hotel enough for our fabulous wedding and two day stay; it was absolutely amazing! From arriving to when we left was just perfect. The location was superb, the views were spectacular, the food was divine, but what made our wedding so so special were the staff! We cannot thank them enough for all their help, assistance and advice, the owner should be rightly proud of every single one of them! I could write so many other amazing comments but will just say, stay at this hotel, yiu will see at first hand how good this hotel and the staff are! A lovely hotel. Although we were just visiting for a two day break in winter, I can imagine a great wedding venue with lovely views all around. Our room was fine, but would have preferred one with a better view.Rooms: The bed was king size and the room and en suite nice, but the view from our bedroom not very romantic.Food & drinks: Breakfast great, evening g meal also nice.

We got married here and the experience of the Merewood was better than expected. The rooms and public areas were clean and comfortable as you would expect but the staff were very professional and always went above and beyond from managers to barmen/waitresses to housekeeping. All fantastic. The food was perfect and cooked to a high standard. The way our wedding rooms were set up for the occasion were done exactly how we asked but it looked so much better than what we had in our heads. These guys know what they are doing, the whole experience from being shown around on day 1 to checking out as husband and wife was stress free. Highly recommended!

We chose to have our Wedding here in August and honestly Beth, Caleigh and the rest of the team could not do enough for us. From start to finish we knew we had hit the jackpot with our venue. It was a five star service, food, rooms, the lot! We are so so pleased we booked The Merewood Hotel as our venue. The rooms are spacious, we stayed on level 2. Location is ok, there is a playground with variety of activities opposite to the road, at the end of which there is ferry stop which can take you to the other side of lake. Definitely need a car to travel around from this hotel. There are plenty car spaces at the end. Breakfast is wonderful with lots of choices. Internet connection is not good. It is a beautiful area with a farm nearby with cute highland cattle.Nearby activities: There is kayaking, flying fox and lot of activities opposite of the road.
Stayed for one night for our silver wedding anniversary. Wow what a lovely place from start to finish. Amazing room (room 2) with beautiful views of Lake Windermere and the immaculate hotel gardens. The food in The Grill was really good quality and well presented as was breakfast the next morning. The staff were so friendly and helpful. They put silver balloons up for us as promised, gave us a great window table as requested and we had a complimentary drink, chocolates and an anniversary card. The rooms to sit in downstairs were also lovely. The whole place looked and felt clean. The hotel felt grand and luxurious but relaxed. Will definitely stay again. Thanks everyone at Merewood who looked after us so well from start to finish (including booking).

Beautiful hotel, great view for wedding, food is exquisite and tasty. The staff were accommodating but some of their schedule are not clear and explained. I’ve great sleeps, very quiet and dark location.The only downfall is the water pressure is very low and it was dribbling. The staff says they’d fix it as some point, we will see if we come back.

With a pick of many wedding venues in the area, this is easily one of the best! The location and view... wow. We see a lot of venues as a wedding band but this is something else. The staff also deserve a HUGE shout out. They are so easy to work with, so nice and welcoming. Thanks for much for having us guys!

We had a family wedding here. Lovely place. Few small issues.The number of times there was nobody behind the bar at a wedding was a bit odd.The bathroom around the main room is very small and couldn't get in or out if some was at the sink or urinal.The breakfast was awful. Cold fried eggs. Black pudding is very under cooked. Toast or warm bread neither was good.Rooms: We had a family wedding, so we saw most of the bedrooms.Some were huge, but some are very small. Although the rooms are nice, they are not always practical. Very small dressing tables for women get ready for a wedding. The bathroom was very small, could do with a shelf or two.
