Food is ok but the view is

I had the most amazing time at the restaurant at The Old England. The food was divine, We all had different steaks and they were all juicy and perfectly cooked. Amazing chunky chips that stayed hot throughout and the crispiest onion rings. Exquisite. I have to give a special mention to our host Emily who couldn't do enough for us to make us feel welcomed and comfortable and also to the barman, Tommy, who had to keep up with our drinks orders and was very attentive. Our compliments certainly go out to the chefs. And the fact it is only £30 for 3 courses or you get the choice of going a la carte is just good value.

The restaurant has a distinct urine smell; charged 30 quid for a bottle we brought afterwards while failing to inform us about the corkage fee

We each had a lovely meal, pasta, grilled chicken and harissa lamb. Presentation was wonderful, great flavour and really really nice chips

Walked in here to ask a question as it was the our first time in the area. To be greeted by the most rude and horrible woman which I believe to be a manager, spoke to us like we were dirt when nothing but respect was shown, this establishment clearly needs to look at who they employ as their customer service is atrocious. We were shown nothing but aggression and spoken to as if we were peasants. The woman clearly thought that she was better than us. I feel sorry for the people that have to work with her

We had spent our honeymoon at the Old England and then returned for a celebration meal on our silver wedding anniversary. This year we are celebrating our golden wedding anniversary and were on holiday in Bowness; so we decided to go for an evening meal last week. The meal, at best, was very disappointing. The starters we had were minuscule and lacked flavour. The meat and fish we had for our main courses were ok, but the accompaniments were poor. We decided to skip desserts as we did not want further disappointments at an extra cost of £10 each. On discussing our experience with the waitress when we paid the bill, she offered to remove the service charge (not a great outcome!!). After paying she did arrange for us to have complimentary coffees and the shortbread that came with it was the best bit of our meal!! As we were just about to leave she came and offered us glasses of Prosecco, which we declined. Too little, too late. Including a drink each before and a glass of wine each with the meal the bill was £100 for two courses. This was probably the most disappointing meal we have had in this country.

Food was only ok for the price. Nothing special. I’d say it was a bit overpriced for pub food. Your paying more for the location. The location is good and if your lucky enough to get a booth or window seat you can see right out to the lake. The service was good.

Walked out. Last minute birthday lunch. Staff unwelcoming. I selected a lake view table, to be told I couldn’t sit there as the table was reserved. There was no sign (some of the other tables had ‘Reserved’ on them). We felt unwelcome and uncomfortable so we left. We will not be dining there for the rest of our holiday, or staying there on our frequent Lakes holidays.
The only thing I took away from dining here was food poisoning. Granted, it was bank holiday, but the staff were extremely tense, the bar disorganised and also I have to say the appearance of the waiting team was unkempt and unprofessional. The fact the food was out before our drinks maybe alludes to why we fell ill later.Lovely location, shocking management. Avoid it.

Our room was very clean and spacious. Plenty of fat pillows. The bathroom was gleaming. The roast tomato soup and fillet steak were to die for.Enjoyed our first day here. Thank you.Parking: Parking is a short distance from the hotel, but secure. All door ways are wheelchair accessible.Wheelchair accessibility: Good wide doorways and lifts.
