Pubs in Ashbourne

“We were staying in a local holiday cottage and enjoyed an evening meal mid-week and a late afternoon Sunday Roast. The service was friendly and efficient and the food excellent. What more could you want.”

“The Cow Dalbury was simply wonderful. The staff are lovely, the rooms are lovely, the breakfast by the fire is lovely. Simply everything I could have hoped for. It was a real refuge after a long day of doing and travelling.”

“Had a lovely visit this week, been in the past and didn't have a very good experience. Clearly a new team in and 100% better experience! Food was outstanding and the staff and service was first class! Loved the small touches of the seasonal decor, even the little Christmas corner advertising Christmas dining was well presented. Vast improvement and looking forward to having my local back! Looking forward to spending more time there!Parking: Plenty of parking places.Kid-friendliness: Colouring for the kids and a good children's menuWheelchair accessibility: Wide doors and plenty of room to maneuver”

“Excellent food. Really tasty, prepared by what must be a very talented chef. Very large car park with splendid views of surrounding countryside. Looking forward to another visit next time we’re over this way.”

“The food here is superb. Cooked to perfection. Good strong flavours and decent portions. Yorkshire puds were crispy and soft in all the right places. The meat was tender and tasty. We had one slow cooked beef Sunday lunch, and one slow cooked pork Sunday lunch, with a side of cauliflower cheese. For dessert we had Creme Brulee. Just the one between us because the portions for the main were that good. It's a very attractive modern venue with a indoor and outdoor eating. A cosy traditional area and a conservatory which was full of natural light. The furnishings were smart and tasteful. Lively atmosphere. Was obviously a place to be. Popular. This venue really deserves full marks as a pub venue but for two small details. The plates on the marble tables, in the conservatory, kept slipping about. A little but funny to start but I wasn't certain my dinner wouldn't go flying. The other detail was the staff. They worked hard and were attentive but I barely saw a smile. Maybe it was a hard day.”

“What a fabulous pub. Called in after reading a review and it looked like the best bet close to the canal. Turns out the review was right. No TV's, no gambling machines, no pool tables, but board games to use on the shelf, a fabulous choice of real ales, good food and most importantly great locals. It must be 10 years since I was last in a pub someone produced a guitar, and another one, asked me to join in, and by the end of the evening we were singing irish ballads and then on to Karaoke and being asked to join the owners and friends on a weekend away. If Carlsberg did boozers, (oh they probably do) this would be it - only with better ale. Probably the best pub on the canal network. Will be back on Friday!!”
