“We visited on a quiet Thursday evening for a small family meal. It was a rainy windy night and the place was fairly empty, but the logburner was going and we got a friendly welcome. We had already booked a table but probably wasn't necessary that night! We have a few dietary requirements (gluten-free and onion-free) and they were super helpful in providing suitable replacements. So many places will just remove the offending items and leave a half-empty plate!I had the Steak, Guiness and Stilton pie and it was delicious. The GF Classic burger was immense, and had a lovely salad to accompany it.All was good, in a warm and friendly environment.Dietary restrictions: Gluten free and vegan available, plus they are keen to assist on other requirements where possible.”

“Coming off the dark and wet peaks after 8 hours of walking, we went in to the closet pub to the car and were NOT DISAPPOINTED! We were both freezing, soaking and finished for the day as we warmed up by the fire. The veggie options on the menu excited us (by far the best veggie selection I have seen at a classic country pub). I had a Wild-mushroom suet pudding and Meg had a veggie sausage and Mash. The suet pudding was amazing and Meg said the veggie sausages were very good too (which is rare)! The only issue was that we wished we had eaten next to the warm fire (but we didn’t ask to). We left feeling happy and fulfilled. Would highly recommend after a winter walk or run as a place to refuel and warm up.”
