Bar in

“Wow! How have I lived in Ilkeston all of my life and never visited this place!I knew it had a great reputation, but I had never gotten around trying it myself. The choice of food was a little limited, but I have to say, all courses that everyone ate in my party was extremely well presented, tasted fantastic, and received favourable comments and feedback. The staff were pleasant and attentative too, making for a great experience. The price was extremely reasonable too.I would highly recommend this restaurant.”

“The Old Oak is a fantastically run friendly ale house that can be enjoyed by the whole family and is heart of the community. With a beer garden, 4 good sized rooms to appreciate, and with a selection of traditional board games to play, it is a good place to chill out and read a book or two too from the many on offer. Plenty of parking, and with very helpful staff, one can pull up for a pint and enjoy the decorative surroundings or stay very comfortably for many hours. Not a food pub as such, but there are great hearty cobs available at weekends and many pop-ups, usually at least one a week, and a sit in Sunday lunch once a month run by a very good local cafe. Everything here is very reasonably priced and there is a piano to have a little play on if you feel so inclined. The range of beers, mainly from independent breweries, is outstanding. Light to dark, many different ABVs. All straight from the barrel - nice. A rather excellent range of traditional ciders that are full of taste and flavour. Spirits are like 35ml. So in every way possible it beats your "Spoons". A fantastic rural and traditional pub that have lovely wood stove fires in the winter. Oh, and you can bring your dog too! Wheelchair accessible. There is also ample baby changing facilities for those bringing the small ones. Huzzah! A right little gem! Bang on.”

“Love this place. Always friendly down to earth staff. I have a business on site, separate to The Lounge so it's handy for the locals to drop in.When I've worked late, the music is good, happy and energetic environment for the all-nighters.And now, they're licensed to let kids through the door. You can rent the floor for private venues (as I will be). Good business and recommend for a quiet drink by day, or partying by night.”

“It's a wonderful setting. It's a listed building thats quaint and quirky. A stunning pub.The beer and cider is always clean and fresh. However be prepared to get lighter if you go on the shelf they are a little above tariff in my opinion. The food is sometimes outstanding, and others times passes. The last time we were there the food was good overall. However both people in our party that ordered beef complained it was stone cold.We have made a few constructive criticism in the past when such things have occurred, as we have eaten here many times. This has never been welcomed, and we have always been made to feel very awkward as if we are at fault. Acquaintances of mine have voiced similarities in their experiences too.In particular my partner loves to go here for sunday roast, and always asks to go there, given the option. However on this occasion, to my surprise even she said this has put her off.The young lady who waited on us was lovely, however she didn't have a clue about the food at all. I asked a few elementary questions that completely baffled her. She disappeared for 10 minutes in the middle of the order only to answer a question I never asked when she returned.Nevertheless the menu is very good quality and value, and the specials are always interesting with plenty of variety. On the occasions I have ordered specials they have always been piping and freshly made.Clean kitchen and toilets is always a must and they always tick those boxes here in my experience.Theres always room for improvement, and with a little effort on the sunday roasts and the service this would be definitely be 10/10 5*.Booking advised at busy periods such as weekend lunchtimes.Well done, keep up the good work!Vegetarian options: Vegetarian sunday lunch available, as well as vegetarian options on the standard menu. Also vegetarian specials are normally available daily on the boards or ask the staff for availability.Perhaps call and ask before you book a table.”
