Went for Sunday lunch today, We had booked and it was a good job the restaurant was 3/4 full by 2pm. The place is very nice and has been refurbished to a high standard and ample parking. We had some drinks in the bar before and it was pleasant. We all chose Sunday lunch that is served on a board in the middle of the table. Food was hot and ample portions. Young staff but really good service, very attentive enquired if everything was ok and did we need any extra gravy ? We did ? Think the roast was £17:95 Chicken and £19:95 for beef. The total bill including drinks was £140:00 for 5 people. Great Value and will definitely go back and try the main menu…

We came for dinner and had the most wonderful meal. Everything was cooked to perfection and was incredibly tasty!I wish we lived locally, we would love to come back again and try more of the delicious food! The best scotch egg I've ever had! The staff were very friendly and very good at being attentive. Highly recommend!!

Had a beautiful evening meal and wonderful relaxing overnight stay. Restaurant busy but still had an excellent meal and great service. Very comfortable and spacious room all in keeping with style of the venue. Breakfast in the morning was also excellent.

We found this place online and decided to try whilst away. The food was brilliant and following advice from our waitress we left more than satisfied. With just a short walk home afterwards we each enjoyed their a la carte menu paired with their choice of wines. If you're out that way or nearby I would definitely recommend paying a visit!

Beautiful restaurant and bedrooms with friendly and attentive staff. Would highly recommend for both food and an over night stay (or longer).

With some friends we had not seen for many years. There were 5 of us so I had asked for a round table when I booked in person, weeks in advance, and I watched them happily write it in the book. When we arrived last Saturday evening neither of the round tables were free. We live in Tideswell and have dined here many times over the last 6 or 7 years. Our best experiences are Sunday lunch, but evening meals have been very hit and miss, small and over priced. Several main meals now over £30. One of our group ordered fillet steak medium. It came rare so we returned it asking for it to be put back on rather than start again and have it arrive after everyone had finished. 13 minutes later it came out and the waitress said the chef had started again…and he had cooked it exactly the same, clearly rare (not just pink) in the middle. It had to be sent back again. The waitress to her credit volunteered to take it off the bill but the meal was pretty much ruined for the individual and the group who all felt bad for her as we had finished our food well before. We ordered two dessert wines but the waitress came back to tell us they didn’t have any. My chicken dish was far too small and the chicken well over cooked (ironically). The rest of the food was good but with a bill of £310 (excluding the steak but including the annoying charity assumption hidden in the middle of the list of items) it wasn’t the top quality meal for our friends we had hoped for. I hope the manager will look at their water value, decent portion Sunday roasts and apply the same principle to the main menu. A bit more food and a bit less price and more attention to detail would keep this lovely venue in business, otherwise it will fail. Already we can see numbers are declining.

It’s fair to say that, although the food was alright, my friend and I thought it was expensive for what we had. I had the classic chicken caesar salad which I enjoyed although, at £15.95, I think it’s at the top end pricewise. After all, it’s only romaine lettuce, chicken breast with some parmesan sprinkled on top followed by a drizzling of dressing; hardly award-winning cooking! However, we both thought that my friend’s meal of beetroot risotto, goats cheese & pak choi was overpriced at £19.95, particularly given that it was a small-ish portion size. There were few people dining, and little atmosphere, when we visited on a Thursday lunchtime. When we came to pay the bill, we’d already decided that we wouldn’t go back but, had we not already come to that conclusion, the added charity donation (25p, I think) confirmed our decision. Giving to charity is something that my friend and I both do; we do so graciously and without being asked. However, to add a charity donation to the bill without asking customers first or making them aware, even if it’s only 25p, is underhand. Of course, we donated (neither of us is mean) but there needs to be transparency about what they’re doing. I also think that, because it’s such a small amount, it’s assumed that customers won’t complain for fear of looking stingy.

Went for a special birthday treat. Lovely welcome, great cocktails but we waited 2 hours for food which was ok for most of us but too long for elderly parents. I think they were understaffed (although very friendly). Food was tasty but the sharing platter starter was a garlic flatbread at £10.95! I’d mentioned months ago that it was a special birthday and was told that a special dessert would be arranged but nothing came and it was too late to do anything about it although I did mention it to the front of house. I was disappointed about that. Overall it was ok.

I popped in to Merchants Yard for a drink one Saturday evening and really enjoyed the comfortable seating, elegant decor and relaxed atmosphere so much I brought my family back the next day for Sunday lunch. It has a reputation as doing an excellent roast and we were still left surprised with how good it was. Freshly carved meat, mountains of seasonal veg, yorkies and roast potatoes were served to the middle of the table for you to share out. Everything was exceptional quality and there was plenty of it for 4 very hungry people! Our two daughters (4 and 1) were well entertained by the staff and loved the food. We'll be back next time we're in Tideswell!

The food was lovely and would definitely recommend. It would’ve been 5 stars but we felt rushed, food was brought out before we finished even trying our bread to start. We were seated at a very small table which wasn’t really large enough for the Sunday roast. Larger tables were available the whole time we were there, we didn’t ask to move as assumed they would be taken and it was too late by the time food/drinks/plates etc had been served. Would definitely recommend to prioritise Sunday roast diners on the larger tables.
