We booked this place through Airbnb and the day before checking in, Craig - the host - emailed to say he could not longer host us as he double booked. We asked him to contact us and he did not have the decency to do this nor to give us a refund, meaning hours on the phone with airbnb to finally get out money back.Judging by other reviews, best thing you can do is to avoid the place.Cheers Craig, you ruined our weekend in Devon!

We were recommended to try Home Farm restaurant by our accommodation at Rose Farm. I would highly rate the chef. Great tasting food, reasonably priced for the quality offered. Our only suggestions would be to train your waiting staff better, the two young ladies that were on call were sweet but had no idea! Presented and tried but just gauche! No wine cooler with the rose wine, no salt and pepper, not around and the place was virtually empty. Some background music would be appreciated. More advertising, better ambience and the restaurant would become a destination place to eat. We had the mushroom dish as a starter - sublime, then one duck dish and one lamb - cooked a little dry (we asked for ‘pink’) but the sauces wonderful. Didn’t like the blackberry ice but that was our choice as we thought it too sweet. If you’re in the area do try the food - well worth a visit if the staff could have some more training please! Sorry didn’t take any photos.

The owner responded to my wife the comments were completely untrue ,we were not rude to the staff when we arrived and at first she said she did not have a booking in my name ,I had to show the confirmation and she said I had booked a single room and the doubles were not made up !!When the owner arrived after 1 hour he looked at us and said what do you want ??I will say that the evening meal was perfect. The rooms are tired and old ,as shown in my pics.Rooms: Best thing they had netflix on TV.

I stayed at the hotel for a business trip. It’s a lovely old place, lots of character & a great location. The staff were all very friendly & the service great. We ate in the restaurant in the evening & had breakfast & the food was superb at both meals.Would definitely recommend this hotel.Food & drinks: The food was excellent & I would definitely eat here even if not staying

Despite seeing some very negative recent reviews, my friends and I decided to take a chance on this place anyway. It sounds like they've recently taken over the place so some leeway is needed for them to get on their feet. We're glad we went, the buildings are really lovely and the staff were all extremely friendly! I slept so well, in one of the rooms in the outhouse buildings, bedding good quality and comfy. Great shower, lovely view! We had dinner and it was expensive, but it was very good and felt it was worth it. My feedback for improvement would be to work on the ambience- there was none! The restaurant and bar area had no background music playing- this makes all the difference! It was very quiet and there was no atmosphere. I think there's a lot of potential with this little hotel/restaurant - just get up to date with a few things, add cocktails to your menu, offer water in the rooms, add some nice music and perhaps offer a later checkout for those that want it. Overall money well spent and would go again.

New owners so very amateurish. Our room was not made up and had to wait nearly 2hours. However the chef was very good and had a very good evening meal. Very disappointed that while we were eating our evening meal the owner walked past us an did not look at us or enquire as to if everything was OK

Worst hotel we have stayed in! There was no welcome on the mat at all, when we walked in the girl didn't even look up at us or seem interested at all, showed us to our room. The room was very nice can't fault that at all also the layout of the hotel is nicely furnished. The food was terrible and extortionate prices for what was suppose to be a brilliant chef, he couldn't even cook a burger properly, it was raw and just a burger and few chips nothing else. Drinks on menu, didn't seem to have much of what on menu especially the wines. Breakfast was awful to!!! Other couples came down and we were all saying Faulty Towers!!!! They only seemed friendly to people they knew, don't think they spoke to us at all. No one ever around just left key on desk when we left!!! Will not be visiting again...........

On arriving at Home Farm Hotel you approach the quintessential English B&B, nestled amongst the rolling hills of Devon, it truly is a beautiful setting. Do not be fooled, what lurks beneath is something so terrifying the film rights were recently sold to M Night Shyamalan. The service... the kind of place that puts the word hospital in hospitality. There is a coldness that befits a more clinical setting, I felt less comfortable in their presence than at a recent colonoscopy. Maybe they were always bad, maybe they just hate their jobs, what we do know is they definitely hate their guests. If you happen to hear birdsong over the nearby busy A road, you may be mistaking a local chaffinch or tit, for the incessant ringing of the hotel phone. Abandoned for hours with no care it rings and rings and rings, Michael O'Leary described it as "a level of service Ryanair could only dream of." Conveniently a bell at reception is used to alert staff of the needs and wants of their guests. If unanswered a number is provided, which is a very considerate approach for a small business. The number however dials the phone next to the reception bell, I applaud this level of irony. The rooms... low expectations are blown out of the water, with rooms so small and walls so thin you get a sense of community not typically associated with a hotel. Aside from the generally damaged interiors the decor is in keeping with expectations of the architecture and tasteful. Carpeted bathrooms are something fighting for a resurgence and I truly support their efforts. Our bathroom did have a delightful homemade rug which I did love, on enquiring where I could purchase one I was informed it was merely the matted hair of previous guests. The food... it is advertised as "quality food... Using local produce... To taste the difference" aside from the obvious copyright issues, the real issue is the first act of this sentence. At the weekends you are faced with a buffet, if hoping for a decadent generous breakfast you will be sorely disappointed. Stale cereals sit next to a lonely jug of orange juice. Lifting the lid of a bain marie you aren't greeted with crispy bacon and artisanal local sausages, but just sadness. This sadness is overwhelming, like an army of dementors, you sense the despair of the low quality products dismal life, it's imposter syndrome of not living up to the word bacon and the general lack of care and attention in its cooking. The crockery is chipped but in a delightful respite the bread is fresh and the eggs were useful on a recent DIY job as we were completely out of polyfilla. Overall we loved our stay, and have booked in for a whole week next year.

Lovely place, well presented with friendly staff. Bonus us dog friendly, our two hounds settled down really quickly in this lovely relaxed atmosphere.Food & drinks: The breakfast was well worth the added cost, my kids fed well and all slept on the way home.

Wouldn't recommend, on arrival reception staff didn't have a clue what they were doing and we're quite rude. We're uninformative and had double booked rooms. The room was dirty, hair all over the floors and in the bed and very dusty including dead bugs in the bathroom and mould just painted over. Shame as lovley little building but the lack of cleanliness and untrained staff really let it down. Would not recommend.

Went for fish and chips Friday. Absolutely amazing. Good wine choices too. A must for tourists and locals! Can't wait to try the Sunday roast which was recommended by a customer. In all a fabulous cosy friendly atmosphere.
