We stopped here for lunch and a couple of drinks mid-walk and found a friendly welcome, nice local brews and tasty food. Menu was varied and portions generous, the cottage pie with fresh vegetables was lovely. We had two dogs with us so sat in the garden which had plenty of space and a sheltered bit to stay out of the rain or sun.

Stayed one night, excellent room, clean, comfy bed, great view. Breakfast very good, plenty of good quality food. We also ate in the evening, great menu and food, good choice of fish and vegetarian meals in particular. Location is very rural, very quiet, lovely views, recommended.Rooms: Nicely furnished rooms, usual tea & coffee & biscuits, good bathroom with decent shower, you will like them.

Well what a welcome! Having booked a table by telephone and walked up the old railway track from nearby Loders with the dog and were looking forward to a nice lunch, unfortunately on entering we were immediately chastised for booking a table in the restaurant, despite the website and none of the staff mentioning that dogs were band - i am afraid even being relatively local ( 4 miles away) doesn’t give us the powers of telepathy! We eventually swapped our table and settled in the bar however the Rib of beef was pretty mediocre and the Yorkshire puddings and deserts appear to be shop bought. We shall be in no rush to return. Yet another Palmers pub stuck in the dark ages - such a shame

Absolutely fantastic pub! We ordered the venison burger with slaw, salad, and thick cut chips, followed by profiter rolls for dessert. All I can say is MAGNIFICENT! Incredible service, friendly staff, and a lovely atmosphere. Thank you! X

Very rural location, this pub with rooms is a great place. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The food is amazing with a wide menu. The staff were very friendly and helpful. What’s not to love!

We choose this pub to stay as my husband’s 2x great grandfather used to run it back in the 1880’s. What a fabulous place. The food is amazing, it has a fantastic choice for all tastes. The hosts are warm, friendly and pleased to help and accommodate. The rooms are comfortable with tea and coffee facilities, fresh milk is in a small fridge on the landing. We will certainly return.

Food incredible, staff lovely, sat outside with a party including a toddler. Facilities for kids were wonderful. It was very relaxed, but even with all the kids play equipment it didn't feel like we were in playground!

Went with my sister-in-law and her two children. Felt at home as soon as I entered. Great welcoming staff. I had the local, seasonal venison burger as did my sister-in-law. Wow it was amazing. Great service and very reasonably priced. Highly recommend.

This is absolutely one of the best places to eat in the south west by miles!! It is consistently fantastic with wonderful fresh produce locally sourced. The cooking is always of a really high standard. The staff are wonderful and super friendly. I can’t recommend this place highly enough. The best kept secret in Dorset. I just hope I can always get a table!

We dined at the restaurant twice due to a local air bnb stay. The host recommended it to us. The hospitality was great and they even helped celebrate my birthday. Lovely home cooked food, great selection of drinks and great hosts. 10/10!
