Afternoon tea really quite disappointing. Took a friend for her birthday & food was decidedly average but service was very poor. Only two staff front of house & one male staff member made it quite clear he couldn't wait to finish at 15:15hrs. Dirty uncleared tables everywhere. Furnishings looked worse for wear very shabby. This was our first visit to Patisserie Valerie in Durham and we had the best afternoon tea. When we arrived we produced a gift voucher but unfortunately the barcode page was missing. The staff couldn’t be more helpful and tried their best to locate the voucher on their computer system; luckily I was able to find the voucher on my phone and the staff were so pleased to serve us afternoon tea and made us very welcome. First time in Patisserie Valerie today and could not fault it at all. Sam went out of her way to make my friends birthday special, first class service and beautiful food. Good staff should be rewarded and recognised. We will be back again
