Always looking for somewhere to meet my friends who live a bit away, halfway pubs are nice but this one was good. Parking tight, food great, prices reasonable and atmosphere just right. Better than some others in the area.

We met up with friends here for Christmas lunch. The food and service was fantastic. The best roast potatoes I have ever tasted!

We have just had Christmas lunch and we were impressed by the food and the service. This is probably the 4th year we have been here at Christmas and intend to book again next year. Thanks to all at the Fox!

Simple country pub. Walked in on Friday about 19.00. Chucking it down outside, cold and windy. Inside, fire burning, locals saying hello, smell of mulled wine. I rest my case.

Great to be back at The Fox. Nice warm woodburners, tasty and delicious food which arrived in a reasonable time despite being massively busy. Pies were to die for as were the mushrooms yum yum ?. Staff were polite and patient, almost saint like despite having to deal with chronic moaners that were out for free meals. Yes it’s an old pub but it’s a free house. No it doesn’t have a baby changing room, but the staff will go out of their way to provide a baby changing mat and somewhere with plenty of room. Always been accommodating. Yes it’s low ceilings and the odd step here and there. But it’s character and it’s cosy and homely. If you can’t handle that, stick to your Wetherspoons or crypt. Keep it up folks! Will be back again before Xmas for sure!

Reserved table at 1.30pm. Food took 45 mins to arrive. Told the pie was chicken. When it finally arrived it was steak. Bit burnt on top. Liver and bacon dish: liver was tough. Fried mushrooms were cold inside. Ordered three hot drinks. Waited ages. Only two arrived. Clearly short staffed - especially in kitchen - and/or took too many bookings. Pub was cold. No heating on, just a fire nowhere near our table which wasn't enough on a chilly day. Miserable experience.

We came as a family group for Sunday lunch. Food was well done and roasts came out quickly. We were in at 12pm opening and it quickly filled up. One big point for us though was the lack of baby changing facilities. This meant that we had to cut our meal short to be able to take our 1 year old home to be able to change him. Ultimately, I wouldn’t recommend to families with young children and we will not be returning.

I attended with a group of friends and I am that nightmare customer who needs both gluten free and vegetarian. I rang the pub the week before to see if they could cater and they promised to get some gluten free veggie sausages ahead of time. When we arrived the bar staff were great, friendly, efficient and helpful. They were also ready with the chef’s suggestion of a special dish (stuffed peppers) that was both veggie and gluten free just for me. It tasted great and I was so relieved to able to eat with my friends (the Eton mess was also gf). Fab service but I think only fair to give them notice.

It's fantastic to find a proper country pub, with wood burner and great atmosphere combined with very good food. Rare these days. The Fox clearly has someone in the kitchen who can cook fresh food rather than just raid the freezer and warm things up. I had calves liver with colcannon and a great gravy. The liver was perfect, tender and tasty. There was a good menu with specials on the board. I thoroughly recommend it.

My wife and I dropped in for lunch, having visited the nearby National Trust gardens. We received a warm, friendly welcome from the staff. A lovely menu, of which we were both tempted by several dishes. My wife had the vegetable burger and I the steak and ale pie. Great portions and beautifully cooked. Was nearly seduced by the dessert menu but was just too full! Will have to return to try it out!
