Went for a party and it was amazing, nothing was to much for the staff and the room looked amazing. Afternoon tea was delicious!

What a lovely place! We had a wonderfull stay! Confortable bed, friendly people, lovely garden, excellent food and breakfast. Perfect location to explore the National Park! We can only recommend!

The service at the hotel was friendly, polite and could not fault, this is any time in the hotel, the bar and the restaurant. Very dog friendly, but unfortunately with the usual selfish owners who thought it was good to be in the bar or going up stairs with dogs off the leads! Would return quite happily as good food in the evening and breakfast freshly cooked etc and good walk straight from the hotel garden. To add I agree with some other reviewers, if you are a light sleeper go for a 2nd floor room, we were under the family room, but I am a lite sleeper for any noise, so not to bad. It would be good to be able to switch off the extractor fan at night it is very noisy but otherwise I enjoyed the stay.

We stayed in the four poster bed room with a lovely balcony overlooking the garden. It was an excellent sized room, with a settee, two chairs and two chairs on the balcony. I felt that the outside needed repairing as the window sills are cracking and the balcony sounded a little creaky. The staff were very attentive, looked after us and our dog really well. The food was okay, the rolled plaice was lovely but the samphire was hard and very chewy. Breakfast was a lot better although cooked differently on two of the days we were there. Ideal situation if you had a dog, as we did, as we could take her into the garden and the New Forest through a gate at the back.

Lovely staff. Excellent food. Garden so much improved since last visit. As another reviewer pointed out, ancient floorboards in above room, we had 18, sounded like a baby elephant walking about plus the sound of a pump disturbed our sleep. Apart from that all good and we would stay again on a higher floor

Staff, service and food were excellent. Location and ambiance fantastic Only 2 slight issues. 1. Noise at night from room above, (moving around on ancient internal floor boards) causing disturbed sleep. 2. Our room, room 15 overlooked the car park and some delivery vans were arriving at 5.15am, again causing disturbed sleep. We would certainly visit again but maybe not in room 15. Thank you for an enjoyable stay.

The staff are lovely and the food excellent also. The only complaint we have is that the rooms need upgrading. Mould around shower and fixtures and fittings loose. Windows and paint work also need painting. Lots of wear and tear evident sadly. We would come back though but preferably in an upgraded room.

Ok, so I could be a little biased as in I last stayed here, under what I now know was older owners. Not a lot has changed in 20 years. Food ok, room nice, location quiet and easy to get to. Overall it was a chance for myself and wife to get away, the kids finally old enough to look after themselves, if you know what I mean for one night to celebrate our 20 yr wedding anniversary ;-) Not one to either do a review or to slag places off, but overall the place was quiet if it was not for a large family, a little surprised considering it was still summer hols, thought it would be busier, but hey we had dinner more or less on our own which was romantic ;-) The place was clean to the eye but is getting tired, personally a gardener is required that actually gardens other than grass cutting no effort is made in my opinon to look after the grounds which is a shame in such a lovely setting. Food - Well its what I remember, we stayed for dinner bed and breakfast, and I agree with others any other way its expensive for 'what you get' if paying individually. The DB&B personally is good value, but would not make us to rebook it simply does not have the flair the hotel once had. I like my veg and it would be a nice touch to have a side of more veg. Breakfast was plentiful, though I'd have liked the bacon to be a little tenderer, you will not be hungry, presentation could have been better other than a plonk it on. The room 'Deluxe Double Room', would have been nice for a view, as said personally even in the New Forest trees can be trimmed, but that said the privacy was in a way nice. The bed was nice and comfy, would be nice to have a greater selection of TV channels. I know this is a small hotel and we more frequently visit the Travelodge type places, but a note to run the bath hot tap may be good to stop visitors moaning about a cold shower. The hot water no doubt is not run constantly and needs to reach the shower. A little disconcerting of electric sockets having tap over, either disconnect them and blank them off, or 'fix' them? Garden, please replace the 'chess set' it's past its best, trim the trees so as they don't join the game, as a wedding venue these type of games draws people in as entertainment. I'd love to see the hotel to remain. Have a sign to show the way to the New Forest, or trim back the bushes so the gate can been seen. Overall we enjoyed our stay, food was nice, its a quiet hotel with direct access to walk a loop around the New Forest.

A warm welcome and a upgrade. Room was outstanding, the dogs loved all the room. Breakfast was mouth watering can’t express enough how we really enjoyed our stay. The little gate at the top of the garden leading on to walks was awesome (no driving) Thank you ?

The hotel was easy to find, the young lady on reception was really friendly and helpful. Our room was clean and tidy and the beds comfortable. We had breakfast, the service was good, food hot and tasted nice. We would recommend this hotel and happy to stay again.

Really enjoyed our stay. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Really dog friendly so would go back for another weekend break. Fantastic pub down the road called The Gamekeepers and we had a great evening there.

A truly lovely stay, Gina looked after us the whole way through from check in to check out. Gorgeous food, lovely surroundings, I just wish we could've stayed more than 1 night. We actually got married at the hotel 4 years ago and to see the same staff and be looked after to the same high standard - with the food still being incredible... we were so pleased and we hope to return sooner than for our next anniversary! Please do keep up the great work woodlands!

Terrific hotel. Underrated with its lovely location, nice garden and direct access on foot to the New Forest. Great tasting food, both breakfast, dinner and scones with clotted cream! Excellent service Look beyond the regular "star rating", we've been here three times and may return if we decide to visit England again.

Whilst the location, staff and grounds all seem very nice my stay here was not a pleasant one purely based on the overpowering smell of dogs. From the main corridor in reception into our ground floor room there was no other smell. I had to ask for an air freshener in the end as I could not stand it, had I have not travelled several hours to get there I would not have stayed. I like dogs do not get me wrong but I do not want to feel like I am sleeping in a dog basket. The bar area had a few seats/tables all the chairs were stained, the blind cords were not secured, the restaurant was dark and had little menu options those of which seems expensive for what they were. As I say serving/reception staff were friendly and attentive and the grounds looked nice.
